    Opinions Wanted - Ideas Wanted

    Hi there,

Im new and am happy to have found this forum. Looks pretty good.

My post is to get some opinions and feedback for a new idea I have. My goal is to figure out what the best direction would be to make the most profits.

My Idea: An informative tool for Fishermen that is fun and useful. (mostly useful). It would be used before every fishing trip and could be used for future fishing trips. You would be able to predict how the fish will be biting, what bait to use and (for fun), how many fish you will catch.

Ex (the fisherman visits a webpage or opens the software and finds the info they are looking for)

My Problem: How do I make money from this.

    - create a software and sell it ??? (how the hell do I do that? where do I start?)

    - how can I make money from it in the form of a webpage. Adsense seems a little to unreliable.

    - charge a membership? that seems sketchy

    - can I sell it as a toolbar? (how the hell do I .....)

    Your Opionion:

Here is where I ask for your experience and thoughts on what I can do with this idea. I guess its on the Tech side a little but, I have no experience in this type of thing. I just know how to build basic websites and do some SEO. I have no idea about script building and software building etc.

If anyone can give their 2cents it would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

Are you really offering a new service that a fisherman would be better off with if they didn't use it? First of all, sorry to stereotype, but how many avid fishers are also avidly on the computer. In addition, what are you providing that cannot be found in the ?fishers almanac?? (maybe that exists), where you find the peak times fish are biting.

Your target is obviously the experienced fisher, so maybe providing a toolset that enhances their game or sets the above the "normal" fisher would be viable..

Maybe something that can track fishing patterns and hot spots.. Im not really sure, as it would be difficult to input such data, but providing a service which can manipulate data in an effective way for the user is normally a good idea.

    Thats about it Pboy.

The plan is to cover all of that and more.

Imagine a single software or webpage that you could go to, plug in the city/town and date where you will be fishing and be provided with all of the elements that have to due with fishing. Based on these elements and the type of fish you select, you would be offered suggestions on:

    - All weather related data

    - How the fish will be biting based on season

    - How to fish (fast, slow etc)

    - What lures to use

    - Where to fish on the lake

    - (for fun) A Fish-Predictor that tells you how many fish you can catch

    - An overall score/rating for this day

I understand your concerns about fishermen not being on the computer however, everyone uses the computer and most fishermen research the lakes they are going to. They especially research the weather.

Wouldnt it be "cool" if you had a toolbar or something that could provide all of this information. It would give the fisherman extra help for his trip and ultimately bring more fish in the boat or at least give them an idea of what the day may bring.

The reality is all of this exists already. Just not in one spot and as a "fun yet informative" tool.

Most fishermen look up the info that I described however, they have to look for it in different places. All I would be doing is putting all of that info that they are looking for (and more) into one convenient place.

Now: Whats the best way to go about making money from this? A sold as is software? (not my first choice). A "pay for" toolbar? (for 5 bucks I dont see why you wouldnt want it?)

Honestly, this whole thing came about because I was trying to find this exact thing on the net but couldnt. I would have to go to a few different sites to get the info I was looking for.

Heck, I may even be able to sell it to WFN for their site?

    - Did you ever see that tool that predicts your death??? Pretty catchy right. Well, it would be something like that but more serious and real with the fun elemnt still attached.

I would make a web directory/source on it and allow visitors to post their own opinions about lakes. Make it visitor content driven and add some affiliates for fishing gear. All you would really need to do it is hire a script writer to make it so visitors can add the name of a lake they fish and answer some questions like where they caught fish, what type, what size, what bait they used, etc. Should be pretty cool. Best of luck!
