    Opening a Liqour Store

Does anyone here have any experience with opening a liqour store by chance???? I used to work part time at one, and so I know the ropes, and have a good feel for how they operate.

long story short, the only liqour store on my college campus, is moving locations, off campus, and now there is not one on campus at a school of over 16,000 students, and a huge drinking one at that. I was thinking what a killing I could make starting up a liqour store tailored to the college kids. Anyway, i was just wanting to see if anyone had any clue on what kind of a financial commitment this would be, and how difficult it would be to get set up. Any thoughts, opions, (positive or negative) or help is always appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

did you make sure that you have checked with zoning authorities approved for your liquor store.

Have you started contacting suppliers? Have considered safety and security for your liquor store? And i know the liquor license is going to be a hefty price, at least where i live.

When I lived in Tampa...near the USF campus. (40k students) There were 2 liqour stores that offered liqour delivery....THAT WAS HAWT!! I would find a store near you and offer them a service like that. they sell the product and you charge $5-$7 for delivery...they'll pay it. I did the math before and you could deliver up to 5 miles away and still make a generous profit charging $7 per delivery. Don't forget people will tip you...and happy drunkards tend to over tip.

MpyreDzirez that is a great idea, but the problem he can encounter is underage drinking, anyone can place an order and when you deliver, do you really think he is going to check IDs, and if something happens, the liquor store and the delivery person will be in very hot water

I never had one of the guys not check my ID and there was always a witness with him. There are inherent risks with any business. It all depends on the individual to be aware and make amends for these.

well in Minnesota you can't sell liqour at the grocery stores. So they have seperate entities, attached to each other. It is a grocery store, and a liqour store is attached to it. They are moving in order to increase grocery sales, and they even said they'll take a hit on liqour sales, but gain grocery enough to offset it.

It is the main liqour store on campus, and durning peak hours has lines of like 20 people deep at all times with 3 registers going. Hence my reasoning for looking to research the possibility.
