Online idea's

Hi all,

New to all of this, so for year's i've wanted to do something online, something to give me a little extra cash if it was possible. I work in IT and i actually enjoy it but not the company i work for. I was planning a blog using something like wordpress to do step by step instructions setting up routers, iphones (emails), virus issues etc. Just a self help guide with screen shots. Can anyone give me some advise and be honest if they think it will work, or is there to many out there?

Sounds like a good idea, i would just start. Running a website isnt incredibly expensive and you should reach out to friends for support. You want to keep the job and run the website at the same time?

YouTube videos would be nice.
What do you do in IT?
The only problem I see is that a lot of this is readily available by Googling for it.

The things mentioned are readily available, but not all in one resource.
I think it's a good idea.

Might be a good idea but I don't think people would pay for it :-(
They have it for free via Google

You could do something like ifixit.com and just create pdfs on the configuration steps.

Maybe you should try Fiverr. You also need to build you online profile.

Hey kar,

First off it's great to see that you're thinking of a niche that you seem to enjoy. Far too many people try to start a business that they think will be profitable but that they have no passion or interest for.

That being said passion for a niche doesn't make up for a lack of customers or readers. I did some quick research and luckily for you keywords like "how to set up router", "setting up a router", and "set up wireless router" are quite popular searches on Google so there is definitely a market there for you.

I would really suggest that in addition to doing blog posts that you do videos as well. YouTube can be great for attracting traffic.

In regards to competition don't worry about it. if you can provide consistent, quality content you should have no problem getting readers.

Also if you'd like to do some keyword research of your own (and I highly suggest that you do) look up "keyword tool" on Google and click the first link, it'll take you to Google AdWords keyword tool.
