Online game retail good idea or bad?

i am researching and working towards making my own game retail website. The thing is there is so much competition out there i don’t know if its a good idea and if there is enough market share.

People like pcworld play currys comet game etc...

Do you think there is room in the market for another game retail website?

And if you do - do you know any good suppliers of consoles and games?

    Thanks

    Hello Kemb,

First of all, consoles are only given to authorized dealers and you have to spend A TON of money to be one of those (due to minimum purchase requirements).

Secondly, any dream is possible, you'll just have more work to do if you go into such a saturated market. Competition just raises the bar for you, it doesn't make it impossible.

What would make you stand out from the other websites? Price? Usually not worth it. It has to be something else more innovative. One tip I've often heard is that you have to have quality information and presentation. For example, reviews of the consoles and sneak peaks of upcoming games and the like. But still, you would have to be even more creative than that.

    Good luck!

I also think it would be difficult to break into that market. I think an easier and more profitable market would be online children's games.

You design simple and stimulating games and surround them with adsense. The games are free, but you can upgrade if you want.

Also, I think it would help if you had printable handwriting lessons and stuff like that...count the object etc... My son goes to public school and his teachers use these often, because they are free and easily customizable.

    Good luck!

yeah, you might want to hit a "sub-niche" that isn't as broad as just general gaming to make it easier for you.

Unless you're specializing to avoid going toe to toe with the juggernauts of the industry, don't even think about it. It's a pretty brutal market if you're talking about trying to play with, say, GameQuestDirect or eStarland. Is that what you're talking about?

I have many years in the online game biz, and I found that a website and such wasn't the right way to roll. The customers are already at Ebay and Amazon. In particular, at Ebay, you can pitch to their search tendencies, and thus avoid ever having to try to be competitive pricewise.

Drop me a line if you want to talk more about vg retail industry.
