Ok so i've changed my stance on PayPal

I've been debating whether or not I should use it to accept credit cards or even a merchant accounts and before I jump into anything, I do extensive research and ofcouse there are disputes/complaints galore. Most say paypal sucks and going to the paypal sucks site amoung others i read so many negative experiences. Then it hit me. When I worked for Cingular Wireless (AT&T) we would get unsatisfied customers and people would swear up and down that we were the worst carrier in the world. PayPal has millions of customers and since they work with so many people and the way their service is designed ofcourse everyone isn't going to be satisfied. Then I started reading deeping into these complaints. The more and more I read, the more I realized that most people wasn't reading the USER AGREEMENT. Most people will signed up for sh1t without reading the fine line. Most of these complaints and so called horror stories would have been resolved had they read the terms of service. Everytime I called PayPal to ask general questions, I got through within a reasonable amount of time and it was a normal experience. Most people that sell online, don't screen their buyers and are liable to sell to anyone that is willing to sell. Chargebacks I've learned are a fact of life and if you do enough business you will have to deal with it, whether its online or at a real store (my wife had an item returned to Macys and got the amount charged back). Merchant accounts will say fukk paypal because they want you business. Hell, merchant accounts criticize ALL other merchant accounts, because thats what they're supposed to do. A merchant account doesn't make you immune from chargebacks anyway.

At the end of the day, people are never satisfied, and end up in the posistions they're in as a result and not researching, planning, and executing properly. Its all about handling your business the RIGHT way and a lot of people don't.

goes to signed by business up with paypal (they're rates are cheaper than the 2 other merchants I tried to sign up with)

I have been using PayPal for years. I think the positives far outweigh the negatives. You can't argue with their popularity.

Wait till you sell someone a $1000+ item and the person does a chargeback and Paypal gives them the money out of your account. Now the turd has your $1000 item AND got his money back. When you call PayPal and ask them WTF? they tell you "So sad, too bad, happens all the time".

I think you will change your tune then..

I've used PayPal for many years, mostly selling goods under the $1000 value...

It's been an absolute pleasure using there service. I have had one 'charge-back' claim. They took the money out of my account without question. So basically you as the seller must argue your case to get it back. I simply replied with my response and within 10 days or so money was put back.

All in all definitely recommend PayPal for items sold under $1000. You must realise, that there are millions of satisfied customers, you only hear about the unhappy one's.

    Paypal sucks

www.paypalsucks.com a lot of horrid stories over there.

Do you really want to rely on a company that could shut down your business in a nano second?

I've been to that site and at first I was turned off with paypal. But most of the people in there put themselves in those positions. I don't sell to overseas consumers so I don't have to worry about that. I use LC for international businesses. All of my customers will be in the U.S. and I have a screening process in place.

People do dumb sh1t like leave the money in the paypal account instead of putting it in their bank account. This is the internet so you have to be smart about it. As far as paypal shutting down a business, if thats the case then your that business wasn't built very well. Its called calculated risk. Merchant accounts can take the money back just like paypal. Chargebacks are out of paypals hands.

    PayPal rocks.

There aren't too many alternatives that are as widely accepted, so I suggest all you haters out there to just live with it.

    ^^^^ agreed ^^^^^

If you are selling small inexpensive items, Paypal can work fine but expect some losses. Paypal's dispute resolution is horrible for both buyer and seller. If you are selling items that regularly sell for $100+ I would not recommend Paypal as a payment method.

to paypal or not to paypal... that is the question
i use paypal and will continue to until i get a decent cashflow happening
the only reason i will change it up (bit will still accept paypal) is because people are more likely to buy from your own secure server
then again the e-commerce client i use is perfectly integrated with paypal and actually does me a favour
so yeah people have been 'hard done by' but then again there are many of us who sell the goods, get the money, and transfer to the bank account, and piss up at the pub cause it works and is extremely efficient

    peace out

I agree if no problems occur paypal is very convenient and inexpensive, but the dispute process is complete garbage. I wanted a set of golf clubs on ebay and asked the seller specific questions about them before bidding. He answered all the questions and they were to my specifications. I won the clubs and paid with paypal. I get the clubs and they are not even close to the specifications the seller stated, and required me to spend $110 to fix a set of $300 golf clubs.

Paypal said I got some golf clubs of the brand advertised on ebay so I was out of luck for any type of refund, even though I had all the questions documented. They didn't care about the seller lying or anything and basically said tough luck. Since that experience I have talked to many people about their service and all of them claim its cheap and easy, but if you have a dispute you are screwed, because Paypal does not care.

So what I'm saying is go ahead and use it, but if you get screwed you were warned.
