New Web Concept???

I would like create a website where people can have one page on my site to list whatever they want for there website, similar to myspace but targeted to webhosts. It wont be free but for a few bucks a month they can list this site on a database of sorts and it would get them free traffic, or sell stuff, or just be an add or even a personal blog??? On the homepage it would have an area to show rotating links and pages and perhaps a link exchange. I think I would charge 3.99 per month and let them decide what the money would go to, I would charge them 3.99, but I would offer them a 3.99 credit my traffic store which will sell ebooks, traffic, link exchanges. I think it would be a good idea, what do you guys think?

Why would people go to your site instead of a popular search engine?
Are you going after a certain niche for your directory?

search engines are free and offer paid listings. There are a lot of free directories out there. What would make this one different?

free directories are hard to come by and what separates this and tell me if I'm wrong is that you get a whole page to put any content you want up not just a few links and a short description. You can set any content you want sell things anything no limits, except porn or anything like that. It is geared toward webmasters that is the only niche. I dont need this to become giant to reach a million people, I just need to get 2500 sites on it and that is 10,000 a month just in the 3.99 fee, and on top of that they have a 3.99 credit and are buying traffic from me and that will cost them at least 5.00. Many will use the credit to by traffic to their site which similar to myspace there will be links of my choosing on. Free Directories are hard to find and equally hard to submit to, because generally it takes at least 6 months to get listed on sites such as dmoz

not the best idea I have ever heard, it just doesnt make any sense why anyone would rent a page off you that doesn't have any traffic. and for 3.99 a month......sorry but unless your site has some content to develop around I cant see you making many sales....

but where is the traffic that the person is buying from you coming from? is it just other webmasters that are visiting your site, and hopefully they will click on a link. Or are you expecting anyone to come to the site looking for whatever?

I advertise the site myself feature random links on the homepage and provide a 3.99 credit to purchase traffic. People will also be purchasing traffic on there own for the site and making links to their particular page on other sites. I think the paying part could work but I am open to advice. Do you think it is better just to have it offered free??? I really dont even tho I will have many many fewer members

Why would people spend time/money advertising their page on your site? I would think that most people would spend that time/money advertising their own website, not some page that just links to their website. Maybe I'm overlooking something that you are saying though.

Great idea, but I don't see why anyone would want to pay for a site like that unless you could generate traffic to that site...and prove it.

There are free sites out there. So you got to have an advantage so it's worth paying for your monthly fee.

I agree with the others, unless you have a great idea to bring (great traffic) the people to your site first, there would be little incentive for a company to advertise on your website.

The concept of the "million dollar this-or-that" has been so overplayed.. come on already! Entrepreneurship hinges on originality. Unless you have a completely novel idea or approach to doing a directory site, I don't see how you're going to get people's attention. Besides, $4 a month per client isn't all that much, unless you can get a ton of traffic through. Getting traffic throughput, however, will lead to you needing a better infrastructure, meaning higher fees, etc etc etc...

Make sure that you have a solid plan before jumping into this venture. Sites like this tend to crash and burn. One rule of thumb, however: The more work you put into it, the bigger the crash!

1. Why I will sign up to one page hosting only if I will get free hosting practically for anything? At the moment Im running my website in WordPress and other modules in FreeHostia. I found even free hosting for large (up to 500MB, 2GB free storage) to media files.
2. How much targeted traffic can you give me from your first page for $3.99 pm?
