Hi guys,
I've been helping my friend to setup his website which would provide some exclusive services to the university students. But only in the UK, as we want to have an organic growth in this field. The site is up for 'Would be members' i.e. the students can register their university email id's to receive an invitation. But not all will receive it!

I mainly want you guys to critique the website. I'd be really happy to get some feedbacks about thelecturenotes.com

Here is what I see.. you started this site June 1.. launching September 2, 2006.
In the mean time? how much have you advertised, whats in the backend? database of lecture notes? sharing? is it like social networking for UK college students to share lecture notes? etc..

I see that you are trying to get people to pre sign up but from your main page, you don't explain much.. it's kind of turn off. If you list what you are going to offer, what people are expect to see when launch time comes?

Make bullet points, sell me on it, sell people on it when they visit your site so they will bookmark it.

Going to College in the USA. Not to put us down or anything, but we areall about the easy way out. I can sell this easily in the USA, I don't know th UK market, but I know it would sell in USA>

I would sign up if it was free, You will need to supply a good amount of the notes at first, for students are not going to take the time to upload notes on the website unless you PAY THEM.

The whole service is free, no one has to pay anything! Currently we are trying to get hold ogf the market here in the UK with a friend who is in the US itself! Once we are doing well, we'll organically expand to the US and other countries.

Think this an absolutely fantastic idea, probrably cos I'd thought of it myself before , for secondary school aswell as third level education.

Just some questions for you:

Have you got many people signed up yet?

What about copyright issues if the notes are copyrighted by a particular university?

How would you deal/(would you deal at all) with plagurism?

How are you going to get people to upload notes instead of only leeching?

Are you going to make any money from it? How?

Hi knots, I am happy to read those motivating words from you. Thanx a lot. Firstly, about the copyrights - we are working closely with selected universities and are being cooperated. theLectureNotes.com is not a place where students or anyone are allowed to leech! All the data from the users will be closely monitored and if found breaching the service policy, will be taken care of.
As far as money is concerned I want students to enjoy this freedom of refering notes anywhere,anytime from anyone. We will not charge anything from students. So its a free service. Also, there are several measures being taken to avoid plagiarism.
The web service will eventually be upgraded as planned.
