Exclamation New Orleans: Would You Start A Business There?

New Orleans is obviously in the beginning stages of a major rebuilding process. That means there will be unlimited opportunities for new businesses. Considering everything that has happened, would you consider moving to New Orleans and starting a business?

Yes or no and why or why not?

    Business in NO

Absolutely! Out of disaster comes opportunity! New Orleans is going to be great again and people who invest now will be big winners. My cousin is investing in Real Estate there right now. My business can be done anywhere there is a phone and computer. New Orleans is going to need everything in the next few years.

Sorry to say this, but no,I would not start a business there,RIGHT NOW. Burbon street is still a mess,as well as most of new orleans. Its very sad to see the situation there.Especially the residents. All this time gone by and still no sign of life in the businesses there, the place is still a ghost town compared to what it used to be. This placed thrived on tourists and there are none now. There is so much contamination there, still to this day from all the water. The funding for this cleanup was zilch to none. But you can bet if this happened in new york, they would have took funding from somewhere to put things back.I was just in new orleans 2 months ago,its a sad situation. And to tell you the truth most of the areas are still a disaster area to me.Sad sad situation.Goes to show where our governments priorities are.Anyway I would say no,RIGHT NOW,maybe later.

    Interesting question Dale

I'm with you on this one dfveteran. I also would not move to New Orleans and start a business. Why? For all of the reasons you mentioned. Also, according to the Army Corp of Engineers, New Orleans levees are structurally flawed and beyond repair and will most certainly fail again. In addition, the city is one or two feet below sea level - a recipe for disaster!

I will do work there, if contracted, but will not live there.

It's not because there was a hurricane, but simply because it's not NYC or Los Angeles. I am very specific where to live, but I will do business anywhere at anytime, as long as my employees are safe.

The levees would need repair first but once the levees are repaired or replaced then I probably would. I have to disagree with you on this Dale... you can't never say they are "beyond repair." Not to get religious, but God works in mysterious ways

Dustin, according to the Army Corp of Engineers, the levees are structurally flawed and cannot be repaired. Those are their words, not mine. And please don't bring religion into this because, God has absolutely nothing to do with poor construction.

According to the Economist magazine, temporary guidelines on construction standards have been issued by the federal government. This is to allow reconstruction to begin without actually making concrete plans for the shape of the new city. Chances are, these guidelines will be torn up and reissued later. It's all very uncertain.

Absolutely not. Louisiana is continually ranked one of the worst states to do business in, ranked by Forbes if I remember correctly. There is a ton of corruption and if you are an outsider coming in don´t expect a warm welcome.

Heres an article I found: http://media.www.lsureveille.com/med...-2279348.shtml

I actually know a couple cool folks from New Orleans, however.
