    New Junk Removal Business

Hi, I'm starting a junk removal business in St. Catharines Ontario. We haul anything from furniture, appliances, construction debris, rubbish, yard waste and much more.

I wonder if anyone has any advice on how to market for this kind of business rather cheaply as I have no startup money. I only have a 2009 Chevy Pickup and some extra time on my hands.

    Hi,

The best part about starting with your marketing is that you can use it as a live time analysis of what works and what doesn't, as well as tailor your initiatives that you are paying for in a better way based off of your experience thus far.

In speaking to this, I would try CraigsList first, and offer some form of incentive to get a good response coming to you. Maybe a 10% off or a "guaranteed to beat your other estimates". What this will do is build you a nice list of people to speak with and try different approaches with. After doing a few of these jobs, you will be able to build a nice list of testimonials and experience that you can use in advertising further in paid initiatives. You can have each client answer a few questions about their experience with you, or give you suggestions about what they would like to see, etc.

Once you get to that point you will have much more under your belt to work with.

Also, make some inexpensive fliers on your computer (I mean really, how many people looking for junk removal are going to analyze whether your flier is glossy and colorful in comparison to just needing an email or a phone number to call with a list of services to read.). Drop these off at target places, like high turn over dorms in the fall and spring, maybe some city apartments around rent dates (first and last of the month), etc. You can also try and approach land lords with a package or "special rate" deal to be their account for removal for their tenants and they can kick the charge to their renters.

Just a few ideas, lemme know how it goes.

that's a great idea. i work for a company that buys any electronic gears such as phone system, IT hardware, and networking gears, so if you come across any let me know so that we can pay you good money for them. you can email me your inventory to phohng@epiknetwork.com

anyways going back to marketing: just get a good website first. because most of the electronic gears we buy from are places like ewaste, junk removal, and closed or downsized companies. Many telecom companies and others that will look for junks will find you automatically.

Just attend as many business networking events as you can and hand out your business cards.
And you know the regular routine to market your name out like: free classified ads, youtube, and such.

The advice I would give is be willing to not only do the manual labor associated with junk removal, but you will also will have to work in your "off time" to take care of the necessary paperwork and bookkeeping to keep your business legitimate. For the first couple years, even though you may keep hours for your customers, you will always be on the clock and no more so than when you are marketing your biz! Good luck!

Another piece of advice is look over your local competitors and see what they are doing.
