New Idea for Business - I need Help!!!

    Hi,
I have came up with an idea for a fantastic website recently and am planning to get my business plan put together very soon! The idea is a web based business with a HUGE market and from what i can see i would have very little if any competition.
On the website i would be selling much larger businesses products and would take a commission on each sale, advertising would also be available on the website.
My question is...Does anyone know or have any experience in what order i should build my website? e.g. Should i buy my Domain name and have a site created and then approach the businesses for my proposal or should i do it the other way round and contact the larger businesses first?
It may seem like a silly question to some people but this is my first time going into the web business and would like to start off on the right foot.

    Many Thanks

Do you have a domain in mind? If you do, and it's available - buy it NOW. It may not be available afterwards and if you really want it they could sell it on to you at a much higher price.

Create the majority of the website and then order your products. Whilst you are waiting for your products to arrive, contact businesses or whoever you want to sell the product to and finish improving your website. On your website, have boxes saying the exact size of adverts and put like "Your Ad Here" in the box or something so that people know what space is available to buy.

Businesses aren't going to want to see an idea, they are gonna want to see the full thing ready and waiting.

Hope some of that information helps,

I pretty much will echo what Milkerz said. Get the site started and begin the actual business while the site is in development. Also, grab that domain name. It only costs a few dollars and will drive much of what your business is these days. If you are planning to get any type of funding or work with customers, they want to see a finished product.

Thanks for everyone's input on my question, i now own the domain name that i was looking at and am very happy with my purchase.
I was also wondering if becoming an affiliate for the businesses who's products i am selling would be a good idea? The majority of the products would not need to be stocked and many of the other products are service's. i was going to incorporate these businesses into my website and then after a quarterly period (depending on sales) offer the businesses the opportunity to increase my commission.
Again this is quiet a grey area for me but i would love to hear what others think or if any alternative suggestions are available.

    Thanks again

Don't mean to be rude here, but "offer the businesses the opportunity to increase my commission" only makes good business sense to you. The businesses you are dealing with will just say no to that opportunity. However, if you can provide them with statistics and sales revenue that prove what you are doing for them is extremely beneficial to their company - then suggest a rise in commission. You could then say things like "with the rise in commission, it will free up more money for my marketing which means whilst you are receiving lower commission per item, you will be getting more money in the long term."

    Hope this is useful.

Oh of course, i was just talking long term, depending on sales and in more simple terms. The main reason for the question was to see if becoming and affiliate was the best route to take i.e more profitable and more straightforward transactions.
    Thanks for your help
