    New Clothing line help needed...

    Hello;
    Im trying to start my own clothing line; as of now we only want to produce screenprinted t-shirts, sweaters and possibly some hats and beanies. We would want to hopefully expand into selling jeans and other apparel in the near future. Heres where i need some help; I really dont know where I would be able to buy plain shirts, and other types of clothing(ie. jeans, beanies, sweaters, etc.) so i can screenprint logo and designs on them and sell them under my company name. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

    Thank you;
    F.G.

    P.S. Is anybody familiar with the laws governing this type of business, because i was curious if i would be able to buy clothing from a manufacturer and have no problem putting woven tags with my company logo on them.

    Hey there,

    There are several distributors for clothing. I use Virginia Ts and Alpha. But these are "regular" Tshirts and not the more fashionable stylized ones.

    As far as putting tags on the shirts, you have to order in LARGE quantities to make this happen. My company decided not too because the cost wasnt worth it for our business model.

    But it may work for you.

    Good Luck!! PM me with more questions of you have any!

    Tags? thats so 1990, Simply apply for an RN number , when you get it, cut the tags off and set up 5 screens (small-xxl) and make a tag style print:
    example:
    Clothing Name
    100% cotton
    made in "usa"
    machine wash cold,blah, blah, blah
    RN 12345678
    ----------------
    etc.
    ----------
    Then print it on the inside of the shirts, I usally do a 1,000 at a time that way when its time to print an image on the shirt we dont have to filp it over and print the inside.
    -----------------------
    companies to buy shirts from:
    Broder Bros-1-800-521-0850
    Staton Wholesale-1-800-888-8888
    alpha sport-dont have the number on me
    --------------------------
    Im always willing to help someone get started in this so drop me a line and ill help you out! Im doing this becasue I started out in this business and I know what its like to not have clue how to get started, maybe some day you can return the favor to someone else, theres money out here for everyone!

    Thanks for your replies, really helpful! Well as of right now im still putting all of the pieces together. Currently writting my partnership agreement, business plan, and our marketing plan. Equipment? well one of my friends has the screen printing equipment so im planning to go to him. Budget is a couple of thousand for now, and as of my distribution im hoping to do local stuff for now. I went last week to talk to a local store, im hoping that they will want to sell some of my stuff. I will also approach other local shops, and if things are good i will hopefully want to go national in the future.

    Ohh yea, one more question...impressive; you said that what you do is cut tags off and put your own tag print on it. Is this in any way illegal? im just curious because i wouldnt want to get into trouble or anything for putting my own labels on other peoples products. Sorry, i dont mean to sound ignorant...but im not quite sure I know what an RN number is?

    The RN number mean that you now become the manufacture of the shirt. But you dont have to have one if your selling in the us, most garment have them becasue there made out of the country so they need them to be shipped into the country. And its not illegal, once you buy something you can do what you want with it! no question in ignorant! always ask as much as possible, its the only way to get rich! BTW I recommend before you print anything make a simple 4 page catalog that will cost you about .65 cents a book and pass them out at your local college and high school campus. This way you can generate a customer base without even having to print anything, that way when your clothes do come out, you have them pre-ordered already and you dont have to spend more that you should on production! advertize in the local college paper and high school journals. trust me this works wonders!

    Thank you guys for the leads of where to buy my shirts at. I was wondering if either of you had websites so that i can look at their stuff. Also, im located in SoCal (LA area)...anybody know of any local places so that i can actually visit the manufacturer physically, would probably be the easiest thing for me.
    Thanks

    Thumbs up Help with starting your line....

    Hey F.G. Please check out my clothing line at moderndaymaven.com
    You can purchase shirts and other blank clothing items at a bunch of places. For Example, Next Level Apparel, American Apparel, Gildan, Hanes, AAA, etc. These are just a couple of companies that produce blank tees. You need to first figure out what type of shirt you like. If its soft, thin, thick, durable, fitted, etc. Then you need to try all these brands out and see which fits what your looking for. As far as putting a tag on them, you can remove their tag and print or sew your own with no legal issues. Hope this helps. Feel free to respond if you need more info.

    Check out these guys. It's a company I use and they've been great. They're shirts are very soft, fit nice, and are low cost and they're out of LA like you wanted. Highly recommended by me.
