I agree with Bored.
The idea is good, but you need to look at two aspects carefully:
1) Attracting users and traffic
Will people visit the site solely to see an advertisement? (sure it worked for MDHP, but that was a one-time fad)
What other content can you put on the site to attract traffic? (forum, blog etc..)
2) Attracting advertisers
Advertisers want proof of traffic. Once you get the sustained traffic, then the advertisers will be interested.
I would also consider either cutting down the google ads to just the one at the bottom or removing them altogether. A big problem that some possible advertisers may see is that the google ads may in fact serve up competitors ads.
I would look at trying to pair up with some of the big charities and get them to link to your site, plus a lot of the other marketing techniques.
Have you thought about what happens when an advertiser bidder makes a bid a few days away from the end of the month? ... when the month rolls over, does this advertiser lose their space?
If so, perhaps you could setup something where maybe the bidding can occur in the first 3 weeks and then for the final week, the last bidder has the front page unchallenged for a week. Meanwhile you can setup another page where the bidding for the next month can continue. (maybe).
I'd setup a countdown timer to the end of the month (creates a sense of urgency toward advertisers), and also keep another page which lists all advertisers/bidders with their links in simple text form.
... also, what do the top 4 green buttons do? They don't seem to have anything written on them and I don't know where they go. And I would look at making the whole ad a clickable link to the advertisers' site (in a new window)
cheers
Nathan
