    Never Again?

Do you people think that we will ever see a bread of business men like Rockefeller, Vanderbuilt, Carnige, etc ever again? Living in palacial homes and being brutally ruthless in business? Or do you think that bread is dead and gone for ever? Or is it just back in another form?

they could be that way because there were few options for consumers. If you dont like this breed of business man you cant just order one, or drive to the next steel plant. So I think it is able to live in some forms but not much for 'to consumer' business.

Who says they were ruthless? The point of business is to compete...they did it more successfully than others. That doesn't make them bad people.

One example is one of the strikes at Carnige's plants in Penn. He had federal troops called in and they opend fired on the strikers.

That is actually not true. The union workers began attacking the executives who had been sent in to negotiate with the union representatives, so it became necessary for a police presence to bring the situation under control.

I think that those types of barons are still around... Minus the limestone houses. Hence Ted Turner, Tiger Woods ( ETW Corp.), Larry Ellison, Bill Gates, Sergei Brin and Larry Paige.

These people control large corps/mountains of cash and have SEVERAL palatial homes... They also tend to be very influential and large philanthropists.

The moguls are still here, it is just that that type of dynastic wealth isn't as prevalent now (money handed down over generations and generations). The carnegie, vanderbilt, and rockefeller families still exist and are very much a part of the social scene in NY.

These people were very successful because they sort of monopoly the business that they are in, which is almost impossible nowadays due to the rapid assimilation of information (thanks to the Internet) but if you can think of a revolutionizing idea like the slice bread, why not?

Yea bro guys like Rockefeller, Vanderbuilt and Carnige were titans of the business world. Throughout history they will always get hype, you know why? Because they provided the first sparks in global economics. They paved the way for this thing we call an economy.

But yea like ppl have said guys like Buffett, Gates, and Branson are around. Although guys like Buffett and Gates have the ability to be more than 5x what they are now if they just execute it right.

    Hello forum.
In my opinion Rockefeller, Vanderbuilt and Carnige has some part of responsibility in the actual financial crisis, their irresponsible attitude just increased the market systematic risk.
