    Network Marketing. Help?

So my father used to be in network marketing back in the late 60's and he tells me he made thousands of dollars a month.

I have an opportunity to join two of them, and have read that they work. But I don't understand them at all, one is a drink with special berries and all from brazil, and another is a energy saving things.

    Two Questions:

#1. How exactly does it work? (in simple terms please) I hear you sign someone up on the left leg, and sign someone up on a right leg, and make a tree. But it makes no sense to me, how do you get paid? do I have to go door to door selling a product?

#2. Is it better to sign people up on the system, or is it better to sell a product?

    Any help? Thanks!

well firstly you have to hit your head against the wall untill you lose enough braincells needed for you to believe their bs...then you buy their products.

Then you will have to persuade others to buy your products that no one can sell.

Don't get into it, it's a waste of your time and money.

Back then it might've been profitable, but it isn't now.

if you do it right you can make it profitable... but if your father started in the 60's and he's not a multi-millionare-billionare today... respectfully decline the offer because it certainly sounds like you need to get educated and trained before you "go for it"

if you are looking to get into network marketing... which is fine (it's not a pyramid scheme as others will claim)... and it's actually still the fastest and most profitable industry (unlike others will try to claim)... then go for a cheaper product that you can experiment with and understand the concept before branching out

PM me if you need any help and i'll point you in the right direction

    Rejoice,
We've talked here before and I respect your opinion, but how is it different from a pyramid scheme? I'm not asking just to challenge you, I'm genuinely interested.

Multi-level marketing (MLM) is a type of business where an independent contractor, distributor, representative or associate, of a parent company is compensated based on the sales of products or services as well as the sales achieved by those that they bring into the business. This is like many franchise companies where royalties are paid from the sales of the individual operators to the franchisor as well as an area or regional manager. In a legitimate MLM company, commissions are earned only on the sale of the company's products or services. No money may be earned on recruiting alone.

You may have heard of "pyramid schemes." There is often a bit of confusion around what the difference is between these illegal operations and legitimate MLM businesses. Unlike "pyramid schemes," MLM companies are based on the sale of a legitimate product to a consumer who actually wants it. If you bring somebody into a business and you receive a commission check simply because you brought them into the business, you are participating in an illegal "pyramid scheme." If you bring someone into a business and they buy a distributor kit and also want to buy products to try, that is a legitimate MLM company.

This one that a guy recommended me to, is selling berry drinks I guess is what it is. You buy a distributor kit and you make money when you sell some, or when you enroll other people and they sell the products. It seems you make a tiny bit on enrolling people just for the distributor kit cost, but when these people are selling the drinks, is when you get commission checks.

He says he is a gold star member and makes roughly $1,000 a week through all his enrollers selling the products.

Also my dad quit the MLM and went into two other businesses for himself, he recently wanted to get back into it.
