Question Need to find small businesses ONLY in my town

Is there a govt website or some place I can go that I can get a list of small businesses in my area? I dont want to have to drive around, going store-to-store, there must be a faster, more effective way...

I need to ask small biz owners in my area some questions regarding market research.

I use the phone book. You would be amazed at what is listed near you.

I was a second too late southern. Our local phone book lists all the businesses. It does it in order of what they do. That's probably better than any website you could find, except for the phone book would only list numbers, and not websites or email addresses.

As long as you are not advertising to the individuals you call, you can use the phonebook. It is illegal to use the phonebook as a lead source for sales. You could use Infousa and drill down the information to the exact type you need. I have had good experience with Infousa.

Google your town's chamber of commerce to find the web site then look for the membership directory. It should list all the information including a contact name with phone number.
    Good Luck

Just search for online yellow pages in your area or just use the phone book as others have suggested. Or register with B2B trading forums and search for businesses in your area.

I second the chamber of commerce for your town. Great resource.
