    need some advice

I have $25,000 to $30,000 to invest in a business. That doesnt mean i want to use it all but if needed i will.

I've had a few ideas for what i think will be low cost startup i know i proably wont make a mill my 1st year but i think around 100k is resonable here are a few ideas

1.head shop(smoking supplys) there are about 10 in my city so im kinda iffy about that.

2.commercial cleaning.i once worked for a man who owned a jan pro franchise so i know a small amount of the business although mine would not be a franchise i would own it.

3.pool hall/bar there are proably around 20 or more in the city so im not sure about that either

4.liquer store, there are alot around here but i figure every one drinks especialy in these economic times(Id have to wait a year untill i turn 21 to get my liscence)

5.pizza shop dont realy know to much about this but everybody eats and i think it would be cool to own one

    6.a simple lawn mowing business

7.thermal imaging. Its alot to go into but basically the the thermal imaging gun cost $7000 and with that i can go into people homes and do an energy audit and tell them why 1room is cold and 1 is hot i figure everybody wants to go green so this might be a good idea.

These are a few of my ideas and im having trouble deciding on what to do obviously i want to invest in the one that will make the most money so if any of you guys can give me advice id appreciate it.thanks for reading

Maybe #1 and #6m but the rest is going to cost you much more than 30 G's. Hell, a Pizza Oven will cost 10 grand alone.

Start something that you can do all on your own, and if possible something that you have experience in, or something that can be learned easily.

Im leaning towards commercial cleaning it seems like i could make the most doing that but i know i wouldnt enjoy it unless i was making good money

Also i know a guy so i got the hook up on all pizza making equipment

I imagine that almost all businesses that take place in a retail establishment will eat up all or more than $30k between inventory, staff, commercial leases, insurances and more stuff that I probably don't even know about. I started my consulting business from home with a startup cost of about $2500 for legal documents, print materials, and a website. Maintaining the business at that point only costed me about $250 a month excluding salary. I think that if you are looking to get in light (under $30k) you should do some kind of home-based one man show whether it is cleaning, lawn service, thermal imaging or whatever else.

With regard to having a business that makes the most money, a lot of young people fall into the trap of hearing that a retail establishment has net sales of $500k, $1 Million, 5 Million, and figure that just because a place has high sales that it automatically translates into a huge profit and salary. That is not always the case and right now a lot of those retail types of businesses are losing money or barely squeaking by.

With that much money, you can come up with lots of other ideas. Keep brainstorming my friend. Don't settle for something. Do your research and ask around just like you are doing now.

    Hello 405cno,

Ask your self what’s the topic you have the most experience in, the most passion?

Next, ask your self who is your ‘Buyer Persona’ [your target customer] and what this ‘Buyer Persona’ is also interested in. Make a list where your ‘Buyer Persona’ is around in your city offline and online.

Now, build your credibility and trust as an expert in your chosen field by setting up a blog and write about your topic. Signup and Comment on related forums and blogs, your City newspaper and magazine blogs/ forum to show your expertise.

Don’t try to sell, just be helpful and contribute if you can help with your knowledge.

Start a blog to determine if there is a potential customer base in your city which could be interested in your offer and to build credibility as a trusted source, and for a test drive it is a very low investment. Try this out for about three month and you can gain a much clearer picture if this will work.

If you have any question I’d love to hear from you.

Just pm or skype me at inblurbs-dragan

    Best wishes,
    Dragan
    Kind regards,

I think you need to figure out what you really want, before you decide what you are going to do.

I wouldn't suggest opening any shops, stores, etc. As some have said already, it is going to cost a lot more than 30k to properly launch something like that. You need to spend at least 30k on marketing alone for this type of business.

If your goal is to create a nice income and you are ready to work 50+ hours a week for a very long time, then maybe the work-from-home service business model is for you.

However, if your goal is to create a nice income and gain freedom of time, I would keep my day job for now. Rather than creating a job for yourself (through self-employment), I would learn how to build/acquire systems that generate income for me.

Don't rush into things, take your time so you get it right. If you haven't already, I would suggest spending a few months reading books on business (particularly marketing/sales) and networking with local, successful entrepreneurs before launching your own business. Go read "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki first. I also suggest reading "The Richest Man in Babylon", "How To Win Friends and Influence People", and "E-Myth Revisited." There are several more important books, but that's a start.

Despite all of that, of the options you listed, #2 sounds like the best option to me. You would need to be an expert in commercial cleaning first though.

Good luck to you. If you truly believe you can do it, you will. Keep us updated on your accomplishments/failures so we can learn from them.
