Need opionions and or help

Hey guys...just been thinking about another idea..I am still going to do my drink idea...this idea now is more of a hobby at the start that could turn into something.

I have always wanted to travel....over the last year ive been wanting it more. I have been saving up so I could start a business and travel.

So what I need opionions and help with.

The idea in a nutshell is this (wont give away exact info). Since I want to travel to about 6 countries already (big markets) I want to take that and use it to my advantage. For each country I will locate people or things, then put them on the site and have people from that country or any other country vote on it. I will lisit about 10 total things or people for each country. Then the winner of the country will be entered into the international tournament. So first its a national tournament then the winners of each country get sent to the global tournament...then there will be a tournament to find the global winner. I know a company and its owner real well. Its a entertainment agency. They deal with people and products. So what im thinking is whoever wins the global champinionship gets cash plus a contract with the agency.

A question I have is should I focus this idea on the US market only, or expand my vieweship globally which I will then have more of a following?

How will I pay for this/make money

Since I will be traveling and meeting new people and spreading the word, I will look for sponsors to help pay for my travel to find the people/things I am looking for. Then when I get viewers on the site, I will then get ads.

Pretty simple idea, but I would need to get sponsors. My main target market is men 18-40, so I need to target companies who are in that market as well. Finding them is one thing, having them aboard is another. Would sponsors want to see the website up and the idea going, or would they sponsor me before I start my travel?

So to put it all together, I am planning a travel website with rating capability...it wont be a site like tripadvisor or anything, its a new concept focused on one part of traveling stricltly

also...after each country I visit, should I put up the information on the site for people to vote, or should I gather everything up say 6 months before I wish to launch so this way I have everything on the site at the begining?

well, like i said its more of a hobby right now....but the thing i would solve is that for most tournaments for anything, the people who run the tournament decide who gets to enter the tournament etc...for me, the people of the internet would decide....each country would have a competition, then the winner of that competition would be sent to the global competition....its hard because i cant give away exact information, but basically i want people on the net from countries vote for who they want to win....like american idol here in the US, it would be a global american idol for a diff niche market

okey dokey...lets try to formulate your problem

this is what I'm hearing from you:

In america, there's a lot of contests. small contests, like office hackathons, and big contests like the super bowl. these contests bring in billion dollar revenues for the contest organsiers, but to organise these contests, the organisers incur costs. you're proposing an IT solution for large contest organisers which helps them lower the costs of contestant processing, staff management, ticket sales and follow up direct marketing to event audiences.

can you correct/improve this problem formulation? Narrow it down. I wanna hear specifics.

I don't understand.. but what kind of competition to vote?vote for the winner of each competition online? online bet?

yes akula, your pretty much right on the idea.

when i travel and reach different markets, and here in the states....somehow someway i wish to bring the competition online so it is cheaper in every aspect.

i would be like the third party site where i host competitions for diff countries and etc...

there are plenty of competitions, giveaways, promos and stuff....that need user/consumer feedback...it just popped into my head thats all...wandering if this would be a good idea to look into or not

not too sure about the ticket sales....i know ticketmaster and others pretty much have that done pat....and for the big boys, im sure they have plenty of money to spend for themselves...

i really havent thought much into other than the idea of organizing diff events/contests in diff cities and countries, especially when i travel i will be meeting diff people already
