    Need Interview Advice!

Hey...I figured this would be the best place to ask. I'm have an interview next week with this marketing company, but I'm really nervous. Got any advice? I'm trying to decide between working from home and starting my own company or working at a big company with the benefits. I've been looking online for interview help, which I think I found this one article that seems legit http://www.instituteforcoaching.com/2011/11/how-to-be-prepared-for-an-interview/ ...what do you think? I NEED HELP.

You already landed the interview, so no need to be constantly worried - you already have a victory, and should have a confidence boost because you won half the battle with just getting an interview appointment.

What I have found works best is to just be yourself. Yes, you might need an income, and maybe you don't have a lot of interviews lined up, but being someone else is only going to eventually disappoint you or the employer or both. Let your personality show.

In marketing, it is important to be quick witted while well spoken. Be sure you know about the latest in marketing. I'm not sure what position you are interviewing for, but brush up on SEO and social media. Try to work in some of the attributes and skills used in the job posting in a conversational way. Be prepared with at least 5-10 stories that demonstrate key skills and are situations that would make good examples for those "what would you do if", "how would you handle", and "tell me about a time when".

I also tell people to relax before the interview and during it. Remember, you are "interviewing" the company too. Of course you will be nervous, but make the 2 hours before your interview as calm as possible. Allow yourself enough time to get ready and drive there, make sure you know exactly where to go, etc. I always advise no milk or soda for 4 hours before the interview and no onions/garlic/typical stinky foods. Bring a notepad and pen with you so you can take notes. I can't tell you how many interviews I have done and the interviewee has nothing to write with - it doesn't make the best impression. Also, research the company you are meeting with. You don't have to know every single detail about it, but on the bottom of the first page of the notepad, write a few important details or facts you found out so you can refer to them during the interview, and add them to the conversation if applicable. Also, if you have any questions about the company, put them on that page too.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any other questions, ask away!

Good luck at your interview! Knock 'em out!

    Good post by YE -

-Also make sure your interview attire matches company culture / the interview expectations

-Make sure your handshakes are firm and you keep good eye contact

-Bring extra copies of your resume and cover letter

-Try to establish link outside of work with the person that is interviewing you

-Answer all questions honestly and be confident

Best of luck getting the job and do let us know how the interview went.

This may sound creepy, but I always do some research on anyone I interview with. I look to see what interests they have and see what we have in common. If anything you have knowledge about pops out, definitely bring it up in the "ice-breaking" phase of the interview. It helps to ease any tension. Just don't tell them you researched their background. From there, you are in control because you determine how well the interview goes.
