Need help with viral marketing idea

My marketing team and I are in the process of developing a viral marketing strategy for our company, OnlineLabels.com.

One of our ideas is to give away a new label product we developed to non-profit awareness organizations (i.e. breast cancer awareness, etc.). The product is a awareness ribbon label that event coordinators can give out to attendees to wear at their event. We were planning to print something like "Labels Donated by OnlineLabels.com" in small print on the label. Does anybody have any ideas on how we could get the word out about a program like this without spending a lot of money?

We were planning to do a press release to the media. Does anybody know where we can acquire a list of awareness organizations? Anybody know of a good non-profit awareness website?

    Thanks for your help.

Hmm, interesting...and very cool since you guys are doing it for the purposes which you stated. Low costs ideas...I'd go with the basics such as apparel, online advertising (forums like this, any promos on parntering sites, etc.), business cards would be huge, flyers at local supermarkets, mailings (postage would be a bit more expensive, maybe email blasts), etc.

If you are giving these away to these non-profit organizations, they should be MORE THAN WILLING to help get your name out there via advertisements on products of theirs, signs at events and so on.

I'd pepper the events they hold though and talk to them about you guys getting a little something (non-monetary) from this. Hmm...interesting. Good luck with it, let us know how it goes.

    BTW, welcome to the site!

In addition to any "Donated by" notes you put on the labels, you should also try to get on any banners/signs/t-shirts for the events they are putting together for special events. (A web link wouldn't hurt either)

One strategy you might take is contacting any public affairs or PR firms that would represent non-profit clients to let them know about the sponsorship and ask them to connect you with clients. You are providing a good way for their clients to spread their message, so a PR firm should be willing to get you in touch with them.

I would start locally. Contact non-profits in your area and ask them to spread the word to all their national affiliates through their communication methods.

As a third hit, try contacting non-profit resources on the Web like non-profit blogs and mailing lists. Don't spam! Contact the bloggers directly with a note about what you are trying to do and offer yourself and your press release up as additional info if they find it of use. On mailing lists, contact the admin if you can, and ask if you can send out a short email about your services before sending it out to the list. Make sure you briefly cover your offer, leave a Web link and then get out of the way.

Try and those and see if it takes off. Good luck!
