Need Help With Manufacturing Clothes Overseas

Hello everyone, im Rodney and im new here.

Well every since about the year 2000, my mom has been making these shirts that she sells. What she does is buy i believe a bunch of white mens dress shirts with the collar, and she adds these designs to them. Alot of frabric designs and rhinestones, and glitter.

People love these shirts. She has been selling them, making each one by herself, and selling them to family, friends, associates, and even to phaternaties and sororetites. She makes shirts for them also. She has also had accounts with differenet churches and the quoir wears them.

My mom is in her 60's, and she makes each one on her own. This business is something that should have taken off into mass production years ago, but without the knowledge and knowhow of how to get mass production, we have kinda put that on the side. My moms getting older, and she wants me to take over and make this into a business that makes tons of money.

So, we want to take her designs, and get them into big name stores like walmart, or kholes. ALso she wants to get on home shopping network.

What do i have to do to make this take off? I knowthing about this business, but i do know she is giving me an opportunity to make alot of money, and i have 3 kids to take care of. I lost my job, and cant find another one its really been bad for me.

Please help with your input. I need to know where to get started, how to communicate with major stores, about mass production overseas, and anything you believe i should know. Do i need to get a patent? Is there one company that will just take her designs, and do all the work and make a small piece of the pie?

One more thing, i just talked to her, and she told me that she believes she has to get her designs pattined before she shows anyone the stuff? Shes worried about that because they could just take the design or something, i dont know, but if anyone has input please let me know.

    Rodney

I just got off the phone with legalzoom. They told me that it would cost over 1000 bucks to patent each design my mother has for her shirts, and she has alot. So, in my mind im thinking. With all these different t shirt designs and all the clothes out there, do people pay all this money for each design they have?

I wonder if it is a good idea to mass produce or not..
From what I understand from your posts, it seem that the shirts are well received because of the personal touch & the "hand-made" touch..

Maybe you can check with her customers & get their feedback..
Sometimes they are your BEST business advisers..

    Thank you..

Maybe instead of mass production, we can re-producing, re-package & enhance the uniqueness first..
We need to do d lot of test market before considering the next move..
