need help on this first step.

I am new to this site, I want to say hello to everyone and say how fortunate I am to be part of a site where people share ideas and give out great business advice. I have always had the "entrepreneur" spirit although others people call it "laziness" and I think they are right. I haven't done much business aside from a few laptop sales to friends since graduating high school about 4 years ago. I guess you can say I haven't done anything. But business has always fascinated me and I want to start selling online. Problem right now is that I need a checking account to start selling online but most banks require you to have a deposit of 100 dollars or so and I have no money and no one to borrow from. Is there any bank that will let me open an account without putting anything in? I have a few things that I can sell and start growing financially. I understand that a Person like me don't belong on this site but I figured I'd come here and get advice from "bright folks" instead of any other site. Thank You so much in advance for any help and I promise to apply the knowledge I may learn from all of you on this great site.

ummm....hahahahaahahaha......4 years out of school and still nada?????? Lets just clarify for you one slight misconception about being in business. Fact is, the only people who make money in business are the hardest working people there is, bar none. A business man including trump himself, read his books, works like a focused and committed animal. So if being lazy is what you believe is a qualification to business, think again. Heres the real deal, before you can lead, you have to learn how to follow. So, get a job, earn a little money, then open a bank account.....maybe then you could make some online sales as a hobby business. Not to mean on you man, but how have you fed yourself, seriously, I am really curious.

You have to get job to support your entrepreneurial ventures. Chances are, you are going to fund much of your ventures yourself. The vast majority of entrepreneurs work other jobs until (and it's no guarantee that this will happen) they can quit their job and focus on the business full time.

Try Bank of America. I know they are pretty relaxed about requirements. But $100 is not that much to come up with!

    Hey Tenfold,

Tell me how you plan on making money online? What tools you think you need, and what you have so far?

    Thanks,
    Kirk

It's been awhile since opening a PayPal account, but does PayPal require a minimum deposit to start selling online (through PP)? You may want to start there as it's a popular way for web site visitors to pay for goods/services and is a well-recognized brand. You could always get your own merchant account down the road if business is really good.

Thanks for your reply, kirk. I am planning on selling some items in my house including a couple of laptops that i traded for, a sirius radio and a very nice looking monitor. No real strategy here just selling and reinvesting. Eventually I want to go buy from in bulk from china or any other poor country that I can get goods from. I am also willing to go over there myself and evaluate the goods and even live there for a while awhile i sell to americans. I know Im getting ahead of myself here but thats my plan. Any advice here?

You could start a online business today with no money what so ever all you need is to combat the laziness if you dont get over that hurdle you might as well pack up straight away,as i mentioned you could in a small way by starting a blog with blogger.com this platform is free to setup with no running costs you could then add a few amazon adverts which once again the account is free to open and start earning commision albeit it will be small to start or the 2nd option is open a free amazon store in any niche you like.
You dont have to worry about bank accounts or anything like that to start with, this means you can start out very small get the basic ideas on how business ticks and how to promote your products and sites, once again you could open a clickbank account to promote products for free and once again this will cost a big fat zero, reading books is all right but you learn more from hands on experiance than anything else.

Reading and talking about about seting up a business sounds great it actually get off ones butt and doing it straight away that counts, these are just a few ideas and suggestions and may help you,but untill you make that 1st move about laziness nothing else is going to happens.

I wish you luck and if you need any advice or help dont be afraid to ask its people not asking for help that dont get on in life.My suggestions may not seem super sexy but at least you will have made that 1st move on becoming a entrepreneur.

I would suggested typing out a plan. Then execute it.

The two easiest steps in business that are the two failures to 90% of businesses out there.

If you can do these two things, I guarantee you will succeed.

Your plan needs to be step-by-step what you need to do, to every detail. Then add a time-frame (time-line) to each step. This is when the execution will come in, if you follow the time-line, and meet each time goal, you will be executing your plan.

Sounds like 'MegaB' has your first, or first couple steps... start there, but write out how you are going to achieve that.

The only other 'trick' to this, is knowing when and where to 'tweek' your plan as you go.

    Thanks,
    Kirk

Getting the bank account will probably be one of your easier tasks. Profitably selling online will be a bit more difficult, but stick with it and good luck.
