need help finding some ideas for a business

    hey everyone,

I'm a college student in the US and I'm interested in starting a small business that I can run on the side and help pay for things. I'm taking an entrepreneurship class right now and it's opened up this whole unknown world to me, and I think it sounds like a lot of fun! I'm pretty good with computers and the internet (my major is Computer Engineering), and I have experience in the stock market.

I'm ideally looking for a business that I can setup that I can make about $25,000 a year from. It can't be overly time consuming, involve manual labor, etc. as I just want to do this on the side. I'm interested if anybody has any ideas. Since I'm new to this, I'm pretty much open to anything that sounds reasonable. I've tried researching it on the internet and all I seem to find are scams and pyramid schemes, so I thought I'd ask the experts! Thanks a lot.

Hey mets welcome to the exciting world of entrepreneurship! It definitely is fun.

Let me give you some advice. You say you want to make $25,000 a year from your business creation but it can't be overly time consuming. I don't know how realistic of a goal this is, look at it this way; if you were working at a regular wage job how much would you have to work to make 25k?

Working for a college wage, let's say 14 an hour you would have to work 34 hours a week. My advice is don't expect to work less than you would at a normal job and make more money, if anything you will have to work harder and longer hours especially at first to get it off the ground. Once the business is off the ground you can hire people to do stuff for you but at first don't expect to sit back and watch the thousands roll in.

Now as far as a business idea goes there are infinie amounts. Look at the world from a different point of view; I just became an uncle a few days ago and it has changed my life I looked at the world from the point of view of my niece; how will life be when she is my age? what products will she use what ones will she think are stupid, etc. I have come up with a good amount of ideas by doing this.

Find something others aren't willing to do and you can make money. Set up a delivery service in your area where you pick up food from restaurants that don't offer delivery services and delivery it to the consumer. Charge the consumer a per order fee ($3 for lunch; $4 for dinner let's say) and charge the restaurant a fee for delivering the food ($2 - 3). You can easily make money doing this if let's say you are smart and target the offices with 100+ employees all too busy to go out and get food. If ten employees order from xyz restaurant that's 30 from them plus 20 - 30 from the restaurant; 60 dollars from going to a restaurant, getting food, and delivering it.

Get it off the ground, hire drivers, and work out the kinks. There are tons of businesses like this one you can start, the problem is starting a business you care about because it's hard to make yourself work if you don't care. Good luck!

    Agree with OneStepAhead,
1.you can't dream to make more money at less time at first.
2.you should walk on your own way instead of following others, then you can have opportunity to achieve great success.

thanks! I do too and I think that we can learn a lot from those that have yet to be conditioned by society.

    Hey Mets,

dont get discouraged... i started working a side business in january and this summer i made 15,000 in one month (buying and selling websites).. it was beautiful. I would have to say, that i spent many late nights up working even when most people were enjoying prime time shows and time with family.

here are some places i suggest you look into:
    www.dominche.com
    www.wealthyaffiliate.com

and a friend of mine here in Boise has a free 2 hour dvd that shows you how to do what we do @ www.dotcomsecretsdvd.com

and you can make good money being a free lancer at
    www.scriptlance.com
    www.elance.com

just a few ways you can make money online...
    best wishes!

    Here's my advice:

    1. Find a highly profitable, low competition niche (it's all about supply and demand)

    2. Create an authority site

    3. Monetize the Site

    4. Get it at the top of at least 3 major search engines (since the niche will be low on competition, there won't be many competing sites, so this should take very long)

    5. Repeat with another profitable niche

That's very basic stuff right there. There is more to it, but I'm sure you get the main idea.
