Need help and Advertising Ideas for a Business

    Hi,

I'm opening my transmission shop next month and I'm on a busy road but my sign is kind of hidden off to the side. Is there any kind of advertisements you guys think I can do to catch the drivers eye? Maybe like paint my garage doors a eye catching color? Advertise on top of the building? I'm running out of ideas and I'm scared people can't see me. I would greatly appreciate any ideas some of you might have.

    Thanks...Robert

    Robert,

It sounds like you are on the right track. If there is any way to make your road sign more visible, I would advise that you do so.
Our business is also located on a busy street, but you would be surprised by the amount of people who had driven by and had no idea where our building was until we painted it and installed a larger sign.
Have you done any other advertising? It's a great idea to advertise your business before you launch.

    Best of luck!

Thanks for the response! I will be getting a huge sign on my building, which is visible but the customer would have to look for it when they drive by.. I'm just brainstorming some ideas on how I should advertise. What kind of advertisements did you guys do before you opened and what has worked best for you that got those customers in the door?

    Thanks...Robert

    Robert,

A great way for you to advertise (especially since you have a transmission shop) would be to consider vehicle graphics, whether it be magnetic signage, vinyl graphics or a full vehicle wrap. The benefit is that you can park your vehicle where it will be more visible to your customers, and it basically doubles as mobile signage.

Word of mouth, and industry reputation in your business will be important. Put business cards up on every bulletin board you see. Get to know the guys at the parts counter of autozone and tow companies (donuts help).
Road exposure is one thing, word of mouth and referral is another. They need to be able to see you, but they won't be driving by and stop on impulse (Honey, lets get a new transmission today). When they need you, they'll ask someone, you need to be first on the lips of who they ask.

The suggestions above are pretty good ideas and something you should definitely do before starting out your business. A large sign outside would attract attention but to remain competitive you have to somehow differentiate yourself from your competitor. My friend owns a body shop in Corona, CA and his advertising gimmick is a Jeep raised on a platform
right next to the road. Its got Falken 22s and a very flashy sign painted on the doors advertising his business.
Vision and ambition are the keynotes to success
