Need advice

Ok, I have a question that has been eating at me. My wife and I are currently renting and somewhat enjoy the freedom of having extra money that isn't being dumped into a house. I wanted to see other peoples thoughts on Renting Vs Owning. I want to own a house, but at the same time my wife and I would like to have enough money to invest in the stock market and the forex on the side. What are your thoughts?

Joe

Oh boy. I don't want to open my mouth.

See the recent thread House = Asset (I am too lazy to search for the link)

Options

There are options to consider. First, if you plan to buy, how long do you plan on living in a home. If it’s less than two years’ you should most-likely rent. Question, how can buying a home be considered dumping money; most people (my-self included) consider renting, to be dumping money. Because, you’re not building any equity in your home.

Second, in most regions of the nation, it’s a buyer’s market. So, buy before it becomes a seller’s market.

Finally, If you want to invest in the stock market, buy a house, live in it for two years, so you don’t have to pay any taxes on profits of $500,000 (married couples) or less. Then, invest your profits into the stock market.

Thanks for the response. Sorry I didn't mean literally dumping money. I meant throwing money into the house for repairs and other misc things. I know I'm not building any equity right now, but wanted to see what other people thought on the actions of renting and having the money to invest, or buying a house and being stretched out.

I think right now it is the best time to buy. In a year or two prices may go up. Big discounts in Chicago area.
