Having a business plan is not just for the sake of you getting the right funding, or so that your company looks good on paper. Having a business plan is something every business owner needs to have in order for their business to succeed, as well as to have many strategies to deal with your business in all types of scenarios that may arise.
Not knowing what an income statement or balance sheet means you are not prepared to go into business on your own, it's not something you should be promoting.

@Gary - Some people dread doing the financials of a business plan. Maybe I could have worded that differently, but let's face it, not every business owner is a numbers person and may not have the funds to have the financials done buy an accountant or finance guy.
