NDA or Not - What is your take?

    Hi All,

I just wanted to get your opinion on whether or not you think one should request an NDA to be signed before showing your plan to investors.

Some investors will not sign one and some are willing. What are your thoughts?

    Thanks.

I would be skeptical of anyone who has the funds to actively seek small business investments but denies a request to keep that investment safe. It may tempting but it is not worth showing without an NDA signed. They will say it is for liabilty reasons, but that is the point. You want someone to be liable if they "somehow" come up with the same idea/plan as yours.

DigitalPalette, I agree with you, but I know some investors will not even give you the time of day if you ask them to sign an NDA. I always thought it was good practice.

Would anybody else care to share their thoughts/experiences on this subject

It really depends on who you are dealing with too. I know some investor groups who get tons of biz plans a day and I can understand why they would not want to sign NDAs. Also, mentors at SCORE will not sign an NDA either. To sum it up, I have seen both situations.
