This requires the manager in question to be respected by his employees.

    No respect, no motivation.

No efficient management 'control' - meaning, the manager has to be respectful to employees, while being cool, collected, and adaptive. No motivation.
    2. "Money is a good motivator"
Sometimes. Not all the time. Even in good economies, people quit. I almost quit my job because they weren't appreciating my skills, or what I do, so I wasn't motivated.
    3. "Fear is a good motivator"
    WRONG!
    4. "What motivates me motivates them"
A very good quote, and a very good myth. And its true.
    5. "Increased job satisfaction means increased performance"
Like myth number 2; sometimes. Most of the time, and most likely, its true.
"It's a little-known fact that fear of success is just as common as fear of failure."
