Last i checked facebook had 17million and myspace had 70million... but each day the numbers grow by thousands but what do you all think? Will facebook rise above and squash myspace or vice versa? hmmm?

Myspace has over 120million...you must have checked a long time ago.
Well, I'm not sure what you are trying to compare them in terms of...it's like comparing apples and oranges...
Facebook is only for schools. Myspace is just an overly-commercialized giant social network. They're pretty different, neither will squash the other in my opnion, and I don't think they're really trying to.
I'd say Myspace is better for picking up chicks...Facebook is more for your small social circles of friends you actually know in real-life. Whereas Myspace has a highschool feel to it. Everyone is trying to be a poser and who has more friends and whatnot.
I think Myspace is getting to its peak about now. It will go down because it's getting overly-commercialized and crowded with spam.
Some people say there's no future in social networks...the way I see it, there is. With Myspace...the whole point was it started as a community way to keep in touch with friends.
It was cool, but then so much spam came around, you don't even feel like logging on to see 30 messages from bots you don't know in your inbox.
So the way I see it...smaller communities like Facebook, for example, that tie together a more niche group, such as only classmates, together...this is the future of social networks. Niche groups, that keep that community feeling/bond.
Myspace is too big and too out-of-hand. It's lost the community feel of things. And it's not for professionals either. A lot of professional-oriented social networks have popped up because Myspace just doesn't cut it for some people who want to socially network in their profession.
While I'm not looking for any partners here, I would like to add that I have a social network site in the works for a niche target. At the moment I have 5 developers working on it...and it may not be huge, it may not be the next Myspace...but the whole point is no one wants another commercially crowded playground like Myspace. It will be smaller, and hey I'm biased, but it's going to be awesome.
Some people say forget trying to make another social network...but they are too stuck on Myspace in my opinion...I doubt anyone truly wants to make "the next Myspace" or the "next Youtube" ...I think those people who want to make "the next _____" will never make it anywhere because thay're too stuck on being un-original.
So, to conclude...Myspace and Facebook are two different animals...Myspace is still only alive due to the ads...and it will die sometime in the near future...
Facebook type sites are the way of the future...and niche type networks...
Just my 3 cents (because it was long).
