My forgotten business visions... why the business didn't start.
Hey everyone,
I am writing an article for my site and was hoping that some young enterpreneurs out there could give me a little insite. The article (so far) can be found here http://www.thinkentre.org/article.php?articleID=14 but I will give a quick version for those that don't want to read it on my site.
I noticed that usually the reason that I had not actually made my "business visions" a reality in the past was because of an obsticle or final "hill" in which I didn't have enough entrepreneurial momentum to get past.
I was wondering if anyone would care to share how they were able to maintain their momentum to a high enough point to get past the trying "hills"?
Thanks in advance everyone,
Chris

It's knowing your purpose in life. 7 habits book was influential to me. At first I didn't understand it. I bought the audio tape and then fully understand the habit called "begin with the end on mind" or closed to that.
By knowing my purpose in life, it really doesn't matter how big the hills are because I can always go around with it!

"begin with the end in mind" is exactly it.
You need to know your "why".... what your goal is, what your dream is, what your vision is. This is what will motivate you and keep you going.
Most people fail because they stop seeing the end vision. Alot of people start to focus on the 'how' and there is nothing motivating about how.
Have a big enough dream (Yes, dream as big as you can and then add some more), one that excites you, and you will stay motivated and nothing will stop you.

Thank you everyone, that's a great point to have.
In order to help me through my recent projects, I have been telling myself that now is the best time to take action (as a young entrepreneur.) I feel that it is better to persue entrepreneurship while I am younger simply because I don't have to worry about bills as much as many older individuals, families, or having a house on the line...
Knowing that I am not getting any younger has helped me to pull through the difficult hills.

Am I allowed to advertise here? Beh, It's just a recomendation.
Regarding the 'purpose in life' which is a key to success, read Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich". It is a great book for getting the perfect mindset for these things

I actually haven't read that just yet because my fiance had mixed reviews about the book. With your suggestion saying the opposite, it will probably be worth while to check it out. I hear a lot of others saying that it was a great book as well.
Thanks for the input!

Think and Grow Rich is a great Book
I have read it. Two companies that I have worked for have suggested Think and Grow Rich for their employees. I was refer to this book by two individuals with oposite job environments but who were very successful. One of them has a multi-million dollar company and is a professor and a long term manager for Quickstar.com.

It's is hard being an entrepreneur, especially a young one. I was face with a similar situation about what I wanted to do with my company, or if I even wanted to continue at all. What i found helpful is a phrase I tell myself all the time to stay motivated, I usually say the there are "two types of people in this world, those who make things happen, and those who let things happen." Then I have to decide who am I, a trailblazer, or a pathfinder. Risks are a part of life, no matter where you go, what you do, there is a risk involved. The most important thing to remember is that Planning will minimize the risks associated with being your own boss. Mistakes are normal, and losses will occur, but the end result is what you have to keep you eye on.
Plan for your business as if you were that multimillion dollar company you aspire to be, set rules for your business and follow them, set up procedure and policies that you want you employees to follow in the future begin by foloowing these yourself. The key is think big, act small (watch for excessive spending, salaries) and everthing else will fall in line.

Find someone who will kick you in the ass! hahahah. Mentors or business coaches help in providing you with that "mental kick-in-the-ass" support that you can draw from with you find your gas running out. They will also be a source of accountability - that's what I needed to get started. Someone who I touched base with once a month to let them know how I was doing and talk to them about any troubles that I was having. Having the experience of being there before, they would provide the necessary help that I needed at that time.
