Hey members of YE!
I though that some members may be interested in this, as there seems to be alot of questions regarding importing from China here. So here it is - my attempt at filling a gap in the New Zealand market. I will post updates and events here for all to see whats happening and how it is done. Feel free to add to this if you have any comments/better methods of doing this.

I found geat demand in the New Zealand market for a product that is very difficult to find. Upon research I found that those who could find this product were paying well over $100 for it. So I did a hunt for suppliers on Alibaba and other sites and found the manufacture that was currently suppliers a few NZ stores at prices over $100. I sent them an email asking for the product information, the price per unit, and what the MOQ was.

I get a reply from the manufacture saying the the Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) was 100 units, at US$19 per unit. Keep in mind that the product (dont ask what) is only the size of a thick pen, so shipping should be minimal. I figue that for everyone of these I import and sell, I would profit over $70. They said they can provide a sample (as I asked if they would)

I finally get around to sending an email back requesting a sample order of 2 units. Often suppliers will provide these for free, if you pay shipping. Of course, after I check the quality I will sell these. Currently waiting for a reply to see if I can get a sample of 2 units.

Random hint: They say 100 is the MOQ in email. I was going to attempt to get this down to 50 or so. After looking at there website I see it says the MOQ is 50, so now I can work this down to 20ish. So if the MOQ seems to high - bargain for a lower one!!

Just got an email back from the manufacture in China (I'll call him Frank from now on, because thats his name ) saying he can ship them to my door for $35.
Adding this up it costs $73 to get two units to my door. Selling for $120, these should make $160ish. Not too bad...
So I send an email back saying

Thanks Frank
So for 2 units of (XXXXXXXXXX) I will pay US$38 plus shipping of $35? Correct?

This is two make sure we are on the same page and it is in nice simple english for our friendly asian supplier. We dont want to get something wrong do we

Update: I just noticed that the product I asked for was not the product they gave me the price of. Hopefully the higher quality model I want will not cost much more Basically, screw them for messing me around

Decided to buy 3 sample units for $28 each (higher quality product then before). This costs NZ$217 to get to my door. They sell for $200 each on auction sites, $500 in stores. Going to the bank now to transfer the money, lets hope It works out...

19th June.
Went to the bank to transfer the money. Was told that there would be a $25 fee for the international transfer, so I had to pay that. Was also told that the amount I send to the business in China will not be the amount they recieve!. This is because all the banks which touch the money in between take their fees from it! So I sent the money and if the manufacture wants more, Ill pay more - and another $25 fee!

Hopefully they get the cash in the next few days and ship the products. Sadly im going on holiday for a week tommorow so if anything happens they cant contact me, it will be one nervous week!

Quick update for those that want all the details

Frank wanted to see proof of the transfer so I took a photo(scanner broke) of my Telegraphic Transfer agreement (which says pay this amount to this person etc etc) and sent it away. He confirmed my address and it should be on its merry way accross the ocean ASAP.

Building a website now, because I dont want to rely on some auction site to sell them. Then I can get future orders for products I do not yet have possesion of. This would be good because he tells me my next order will have to be over 100 units.

Edit: Got only $100 aprox left in my "Spending money" bank account!! So im quickly making another adsense site to top this back up

Thanks to another member for making me aware of possible restrictions with this product. There actually illegal in the US.
