    my company name dilemma

So i have a company called GamerGripz. We sell a unique product for xbox controllers that provide grip to sweaty hands and give better control of the controller.
(Our product isnt actually out for sale yet)

One of our competitors is Gamer-Grip, they sell a lotion that provides stops hands from sweating and provides grip. So there product does the same general thing as ours basically. There website is Gamer-Grip.com. Also Gamer Grip is heavily backed by professional gamers, so do you think it is a bad idea to have almost the same name as them and have a product that serves the same purpose?

I believe our product will be better and more beneficial and cost efficient for users, so if i think we can beat them out product wise would it be okay to have a similar name?

The reason we didnt pick another name after we did our research and found Gamer Grip is because we thought it was more targeted for outdoor sports and not gaming like our product but it turns out it isnt.

    thanks for the help,
also if you want to check our facebook page to get more insight into our name and product verse theirs, the link is in my sig.

Why risk the possibility of getting cease-and-desist letters from their attorneys? The names are awfully similar, especially since they're in the same markets.

Go with something more unique; so ppl won't be confused. If you're product is that good, you don't want your name confused with your competitors.

I agree but then again i like our name and dont want to have to change everthing. their company is more of a smaller not really known company. they are also a pretty new company too. they have been up and running longer than us but we happen to have close to more twitter followers and fb page likes than them. I feel like its would be fine if we keep our name as we could probably get our product more out there to more gamers and potential customers first.

Im going to agree with GotLiveChat. The other company may send out letters of such and can back up their actions by stating that their company was out before yours etc. You don't want to take that risk and such a thing happens when your business has become very successful. How about the name GripTight?

I think you should change your business name. I think you are asking for trouble otherwise. You could get more creative than Gamergripz.

How about Gamergloves or GamerCondoms. The condoms idea would get shared a lot online. Condoms for your Xbox controller. Something like that maybe? Then show super hot 19 year old babes with low cut tshirts and tight bottoms advertising your gear. Could go viral in the super horny teenage gamer community.

    Other names:
HardcorGrips - Grips for hardcore gamers!
    GripNazis
GripCheaters - Grips that make you so good its like you are cheating!
    CheaterGripz - same idea
StickyGripz - Grips that make your fingers stick to the controller!

Think about who your ideal target audience is for the grips and then come up with an idea that speaks to them. I really don't think that GamerGripz is the best idea you could come up with.

    Just my 2 cents.

Take some time and come up with a different term. Too risky to actually spend some money to get into production when you are going to be going after a similar market.

Off the top of my head I like something like "Clutch", which allows you to do some word play with clutch situations that gamers might encounter in the middle of a game.

I can see how easily you could made some youtube videos about how clutch made the difference between winning and loosing. Another tip, get a nice looking girl to help you with the videos... it will work wonders with your target market.

never thought about just Gripz but thanks for the suggestions! we figured we could use xboxgripz due to trademark laws and all but have thought about XGripz, only thing is we plan eventually to create products for PlayStation as well.
