    Mp3 Vending Mahine

    Hello all,
Just a quick thought. I was in best buy and saw all those rack of cd's a few days ago. That is an awful lot of space dedicated to a dying technology. How about someone make a simple easy to use Mp3 vending machine with ports for memory storage (CD, CF, USB) and cables to download directly to a player (USB, Firewire, etc.) This would be a killer for an already established model like itunes but could work elsewhere.

    Thanks
    -ter

    Simpsons did it!

No but really, souch things have been on the market for ages! But not every store is using it due a fair share of people still want to have the disc when they pay top dollar for it.

People still buy CDs and DVDs.
Regardless of what iTunes would have you believe, they're still the majority of the market in music sales, and physical media isn't going to disappear.
People don't just buy CDs for the music. They want the album art, the things that come with it, the extra media that a lot of bands stick on CDs, some of which won't work on media players, etc.
There's plenty you can do with a disc and a case that you cannot do with an Mp3 player.

Added on top of that is that a lot of Mp3 players have DRM issues, particularly if we're talking iPods.

This would not take off because of one small little thing. The internet! Why would someone drive somewhere to get mp3's when they can turn on their computers and download it from wherever? Now that Redbox (if you haven't heard of it yet you will soon) is an idea I so dearly wish I came up with. A movie rental vending machine for a buck a night! Wow. Goodbye blockbuster.
