Mobile website development

Hi all,

This is directed to the web developers here. I am going to be launching a retail site within the next few weeks or so, and have recently started to consider rolling out a mobile version of the site at the same time. I am not familiar with developing mobile sites, and needed to know how this would work with a heavily modded wordpress based site.

Normally I would just sit down and figure out how to throw this together myself, but time is of the essence, and if I choose to go along with the mobile site, I will be contracting it out. Please provide me with some knowledge on this subject, and what it'll entail.

some websites offer automatic conversion of sites for mobile .
you can try them

but i think they work for only simple html sites, because when i tried to convert my temporary email site it doesn't work properly

Well, it will not be easy. A typical html mobile site is simple, but an e-commerce site run mobily will be difficult to develop. I'm currently developing an HTML mobile site for my website but HTML won't help you.
