    mental block?

Everything I read about tells me to do something that i love. It seems like great advice, but i can't figure out how to make money from my interests. It's either a) a lot harder than it sounds or b) i'm just not creative.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get the creative juices flowing?

    1) List down everything you have an interest in. There is no point in starting a venture unless you have interest in the industry.

    2) Find an unfulfilled need or want. If you are passionate enough about the area/industry then you will probably be fairly involved in it already and so will probably know quite a few gaps which could be filled by a business

    3) Decide on the best couple

    4) Survey potential customers

    5) Go for it!

Don't make your motive profit, it will come easier if you just launch a startup in something you're passionate about.

    cheers

I agree with Nathan, find what interest you most and concentrate on it. If you're not that good enough, find a partner or a mentor to help you out. Don't forget also to analyze the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats ) of your business. Wish you success!

It's always good to do something you enjoy and yes, it is harder than it sounds.
Try to expand into things you like doing that aren't necessarily hobbies.

For instance, I own a scrapbooking business. I definately have no interest in scrapbooking. But I do enjoy the aspects of the business I am involved in: IT infrastructure, online advertising, strategic business development, marketing, networking and attending tradeshows. So even though I don't scrapbook on my own time, I still enjoy what I do because the things I am doing interest me.

ok i see what you're saying. when you put it that way, i like accounting, i've always been really good with numbers. other than accounting, i'm a very capable writer, and i enjoy writing immensely.

i also enjoy computers. it wouldnt bother me one bit to sit in front of a computer for 12 hours a day if it would help me create a solid income stream.

i'm also looking forward to managing a company as a whole. i'm a very organized person in general and feel i will be extremely efficient at running a business of my own.
