Marketing stunts

Do you need to have permission to do a marketing stunt. If so from who? I've had a few ideas for some marketing stunts but I don't think i'll be able to get permission to do them. If you dont get permission what are the implications? Will the government stop your business trading? or even send you to jail?

Hey, great question! What sort of marketing stunt are you planning on doing? You need to provide some details on that. Of course you can't do something dangerous or stupid, please use commonsense here, but so long as its harmless and doesn't disturb anyone, it should be fine. Again, need details. Is it for a business and if so, which one etc.? If you to do something online then make sure you value other people's privacy, safety etc. and respect that. Good luck!

one of my ideas was sending thousands of little rubber ducks down the river themes. Or failing that a few giant rubber ducks racing each other. It should generate a lot of publicity and could make a good viral video. The appropriateness of this obviously depends on the business. What do you think?

thanks, but would this sort of idea be allowed? I'm guessing I would have to contact the advertising standards authority but would I have to ask anyone else? Also what do people think on 'any publicity's good publicity'? This is something that could easily annoy people but is that ok if it still gets people talking about your company? Will this still result in increased sales?
