    Market research online

    Hi

I'm planning on doing some market research online. I plan to have an online questionnaire and post a link to it on forums that my target market are on. Is this a good way to do online marketing? I was also thinking about having a competition for £20 worth of itunes vouchers so everyone who responds will have to leave an email address and I will draw one out of the hat to see who wins the prize. This will also give me an opportunity to build up an email address book of potential clients who I can then contact should the product I have in mind then go on sale.

What do people think of this? Is there a better way?

    Any advice appreciated

    Thanks

    Charlie

Sounds like a great idea! Just be mindful of the fact that one should never gather emails just for the purpose of gathering as many as possible for no intended reason. That is "spamming". If you have a targeted need or business opportunity and THEN people come to you and provide their contact details then they are interested and want to learn more from you. If you begin to gather emails for, as an example, a music related business and then later on send them emails in regards to books, I am sure some percentage would find that a huge "turn off".

So be careful and wish you all the luck in the world! Just keep in mind that customer and user satisfaction and privacy should be of utmost concern. Your reputation as an internet entrepreneur ought to be a good one so don't Spam people. If you have a targeted segment of users, then send them that targeted email, newsletter etc.

is it legal to include a clause in the competition in which I can say: there will only be a winner if there are more than 200 respondents. Also what is a reasonable amount for prize money?
