    Manufacturing and Importing from China

    Hey everyone,

I am in the process of looking for a manufacturer in China, and was hoping that anyone who has experience with this could give me any pointers. I could use any advice, from picking the right manufacturer, to payment, to making sure your product will be good quality, and finally receiving the shipment. ANY advice or experience anyone has would be a big help to me. I am not able to make a trip over there to visit factories for a couple months, so please keep that in mind and just give me any pointers you have. Thanks!!!

    -Adam

how many suppliers do you ? if there is many suppliers you should have a procedure for selecting odne of them .for payment , i suggest L/C. to ensure top quality , you ask professional inspectors to do the job for you.

1.make sure the vendor you found is not a trading company. trading company's price will be higher.
Before do Biz with a factory, you should get the detail of factory, such as tel/fax, licence, pictures of workshop, showroom, office, gate and so on.
2.payment. L/C is the best, i think. but factory demand T/T usually. so 30% T/T as deposit, the balance by L/C is better.
3.inspection. find a person inspect you goods, release audit report and send you the pictures.

I do not know how to find the inspector.

inspection is tough job. Usually, i just inspect bags/wallets/belts, and some gift items. Some electronic products need some device to test.

in fact, your vendor would help you to find a inspector. As inspectors often inspect same products like yours in factory. also you can ask SGS/ITS to help you. they specilize in product testing, but the price is quite high.

don't forget the audit report. that should be include pictures and figure.
Before pay the money, you should get this audit report and know all prouct are good.

    good luck, Adam

    Adam .....

Do what you want .. but .. would strongly reconsider doing business with China.

I can tell you, from experience, that unless you are a major corporation that can
afford to have a full time employee in the plant there making your product ... FORGET IT!!

Even major corporations are pulling out now. There's even a new coalition called "China No" that is made up of businesses SCREWED by doing business in China.

Not to forget ... you will also be sending money to a Communist Country.

Thanks again for the advice Terry!

Lettermall, I think it's very nearsighted to dismiss China altogether as being a source for manufacturing. Sure, it is possible to get ripped off, but if you are careful and are able to develop a good relationship with a manufacturer, why not manufacture in China?

    1. hire chinese to control and handle your chinese products and suppliers, no matter the trading or factory, I think the trading is better than factory. they will help you to handle the factory than yourself
    2. use the SGS or ITS to test your product before shipment.
    3. L/C payment better, T/T also ok
    4. Almost Chinese are good, trust these!

I use Alibaba.com for my international trading leads. Their "Gold" level suppliers are generally honest with what they sell, and the prices are much better than using other sources.

The "Gold" do not means how good their products, means how much money supplier pay to Alibaba.

You can enter "handbag" and seach. and you can find Canton Unicorm always in #1. as they pay almost pay USD20,000 per year. Also their bags pretty good.

Be careful with Alibaba.com I did try it before just wasn’t totally sure how to use it but I would just try to make sure you know who you are doing business with. Maybe find out some more information (e.g. location, years in business, previous clients). I know this information isn’t readily available but the more you find out the better.
