Manage Business across country

Is it possible to manage a start-up across the country. The company is going to be based in Southern California but I'm going to school in Berkeley (Northern California). In a very general overview the company is going to sell a certain wholesale food product to chains of stores in So. Cal.

I haven't started this business yet because I'm wondering if I should start it right now or wait until after college when I move back to CA (In 4 years!! might be to late).

Can you elaborate more?
Why can't you run it from Nor Cal? Will this product be sold ONLY in souther california? Can you start in Nor Cal?

How will you pick up clients?
