    Question Making Luxury Fountain Pens?

    Hi guys,
I wanted to share my business idea and ask if anyone with some experience in this field could give some advice. The idea is simple – making luxury fountain pens.

Why? Because it is relatively simple to manufacture them at a cost at least 10 times lower then the selling price.

For example, this little guy from Montblanc goes for about 2’500$

While this one from Grayson Tighe for some 24’000$

What do you think? Of course with the right branding, marketing, etc. and even if making them in a garage , posing them as an oldest and finest brand of Geneva, etc.

I think that is a good idea. Since you manufactured your own products, you can sell it offline and online.

If you want to sell your product online, you need a website that actually works for you. A website is a strong foundation to create an online business.

Selling online is great, but I highly doubt you'll get a large volume
If you're going to sell online, perhaps buddy up to a few of the "gurus" that mail out their crappy get-rich-wth-my-advice newsletters. They always shill for something. See if they will shill for you in exchange for a pen.
Get 3-5 of the self important shakespeare monkeys to plug your stuff, and you'll not only get a massive amount of traffic, you'll get some "confirmation bias" going on from the people that subscribe to multiple "gurus" on the basis of 'Well, if two+ of them recommended it, it must be an awesome product! I better go buy it'.

Conversely, good luck getting even 20% of what you think is a fair retail price out of a store.
A friend of mine works at a stationary store, and gives me what would be $500 RRP pens for Xmas... because they only cost the store $50 to buy wholesale.
I'd recommend trying to find a whole bunch of luxury item stores to sell to instead of stationary stores. They'll charge even more ridiculous prices, but it allows you to drive up your own wholesale price.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea.
I love fountain pens, particularly one that have adjustable / replaceable nib sockets (I like to draw).
Hell, make them compatible with standard Japanese illustration nibs, and I'll be a customer!
