    Making a site like youtube?

Hi I am wondering if it is possible to create a site like youtube? Where people can upload videos and they will be posted in a neat order. I am looking into making one but with a twisted idea to it. Unique. I have been looking for a place like my idea forever. So I want to make one.

If their is anyone out their that can code and design the site and are interested in becoming my partner. Email me at julianhandy@gmail.com and I will give you specifics.

    Thanks,
    Alex

ALSO!!! If their is a way to do this. Is their a way to do it in HD?

There are so many YouTube knockoffs around that I imagine there a lot of options for pre-built scripts that you can purchase. You'll have to search for them though.

I do know that it will take fairly massive server capabilities to run something similar to that site (and I don't just mean by the size).

I'm just performing a research and testing for Youtube like media platforms which will be published as articles in MyTestBox.com - web software reviews: Get paid to post reviews!. So I actually install those product to my server, configure and test those which will take usually around two weeks. So far I have been unlucky to find some partners actually willing to launch and market such kind of sites which could get me enough compensation for those tasks. If your idea is only videos, then I would recommend either clipshare or sharemixer.
I will start to write about sharemixer next week. It's interesting alternative to clipshare developed in Zagreb, Croatia and work fine.
If you want to launch such kind of site, you should invest to:
    1. Software license ~ $300
    2. Dot com name ~ $10
    3. Hosting ~ $30
    4....
So the business could be started with less than $500. Please PM if interested?

It will be a good idea if you have large network that can help you market your site and if you come out with something that is REALLY unique or else you will waste thousand of dollar creating the site.

There are lot more of youtube-like website than you can imagine that people are trying to become the next youtube without aware how big the competition is. I know this because I almost become one of them few month back ago.

I also own some of the YouTube knock off software; however the REAL problem you are going to face if you are successful is paying for the TREMENDOUS BANDWIDTH when you host this site. We have thought of several very good apps that could do the same as YouTube. We are not amateurs either - 34 years in the Marketing world, 25 years in Videography 11 years in TV production and 8 in Internet Marketing for myself alone not counting my business partners!

The bandwidth for some of our projects would have eaten us alive and we would have NEVER gotten the funds to continue. One of the most successful knockoffs is PornTube and the reason they are able to continue operating is that they have HUGE bucks from the porn world - read Mafia behind them!

Can you tell us what the idea is so that we can tell you if it's even worth pursuing? I don't mean to be a downer but when people come in here trying to mimic Facebook, MySpace and YouTube, things usually go nowhere.

Just wondering, how much did you have to pay for the bandwidth?

Wasn't youtube taken over by google now? I reckon they'll just grow bigger and better, whether it is quality of the vids to the availability of bandwidth to the public... I don't know but I'd look into something no one has their hands on yet type of idea or perhaps invest into something you know a lot about which is on demand good luck with your venture.. sorry for blathering I'm working on my over 5 post to enable me to post thread with links hehe. G'day

    Some questions to you:
    1. How do you market this kind of site online? I understand that Social Bookmarking is the main tool to market it but you need to get your visitors there at first place. Search Engine Optimization seems to be uneffective as it does not have much text to index.
    2. Can it be profitable using Google AdSense only or do you need some other revenue sources to get the bandwith paid?
