    Lowering the Gas Prices

so lately i have been talking to some people and in our discussion, the price of gas came up. with that said, what do you think would happen if all of the consumers quit using one particular company all together? I think it will take a while, but steadily it will lower gas prices if large companies are targeted because they will be forced to lower their prices and for others to compete..they will start lowering the prices also. so, tell me what you think.
    thanks.

Yeah, that will never happen. They have been having don't buy gas days for years now and it hasn't done anything. Prices aren't going down till a solution that is not fossil fuel is introduced, and no its not ethanol.

This is one of those subjects that in theory it could work but in practice no way,why dont you guys call it petrol instead of gas,gas to us in the UK is that stuff you cook with and yes even that is controlled by the Cartel.

Speculation in the oil market is what's causing the high gasoline prices at the moment. Just like housing, the bubble is going to eventually burst. Pretty soon my guess is that oil will be back below $100 a barrel, maybe even $80 a barrel. It won't sustain these prices.

i agree, but ive heard the it might go up to $180 a barrel before it starts to go down..so...everyone knows that it will go down eventually, history tells us that, but when? 1,2,3 years?

That's quite a definitive statement considering your first response had an appearance of misunderstanding the original scenario. How can you possibly rationalize the use of 'never' in a response?

I think it would take a huge % of consumers to target one particular gas company for several months, if not longer. Once that one company feels the pinch, they might be enticed to drop their price a quarter or so. But unless the consumers continue to hold out against them (as opposed to caving in to save $4-5), the company will be able to break the cycle quickly and we'll be back to square one.

Because petrol isn't the same as gas in my eyes. Even though petrol is synonymous with gasoline, I think of petroleum every time I hear petrol...which is really the raw substance that is taken from the ground.

Again with poor usage of words with very definitive meanings. You can't say something is fact unless there are facts to back it up...and predicting the future of this type of thing can't be proven by fact! I know it must be hard, by try to have an open mind.
