Question Looking for insights from distribution experts

    Hello all,

I have a piece of software that cost me $20 to purchase from the manufacturer. It's all packaged and ready to sell.

My rrp is $45. I decide to approach a major electronics retailer to sell my software.

1st question: What price range can I realistically aim for when selling it to them, considering they are a huge outlet?

2nd question: Will my packaging have an influence on the price. Lets say i decide to use small simple packaging instead of a large software box (similar windows packaging), this will cost me less, but this will take up less inventory space for the retailer, although minimal.

I would love to hear from anyone who has distribution experience, especially with electronics/software companies.

My guess would be that if it sells at $45, they will want to buy at 50% so likely to be about $22.50.

that seems very low, considering it's software and doesn't take up much inventory space. That means i would only make $2.50 per piece, which would hardly cover my costs?

    Think of the volume!

And, many retailers sell below the rrp. I don't think you will find the answers you are looking for here. You need to talk directly with the people you hope to sell to. They may have their own preferred packaging size / method.

I don't mind the retailers selecting the packaging.

Any good resources for selling to big retailers?
