    looking for advice business idea

Hi guys im in my early 20's completely new to business startups, just looking for a little advice. I recently hired some dvd's and they were scratched it gave me the idea why dont they make a slim plastic cover that stick's to the bottom of the dvd kinda like clear protectors for iphone. Does anyone think this is a worthwhile idea and where would i find someone to manufacture these for me. Ive been googleing but havnt found anything as yet. I guess my plan would be to create a website and sell them from there also approach alot of the dvd rental places to try and get them interested.

    many thanks

    Ryan

Well, you would be facing a few problems with the idea, so give me a sec to play devil's advocate. But I will start by saying it's a decent idea, now here's the problem.

#1 Integration: DVD players (most anyway) are made to accept a certain thickness and mobility on DVD's. The plastic used to protect phone covers is generally plastic, not as unresistant as the original face, and hold by static, which can build up as anyone who has ever overly rubbed on on their pants can tell you. Static inside a DVD player is not a good thing.

#2 Application: You would have to have an applicator that would put the cover on the DVD in such a way to not imbalance it which can wreak havoc on the DVD, the player, or the user.

#3 Price and Popularity: The covers and applicator couldn't be more expensive than a DVD or most people will more than likely just ignore it. On top of that DVD popularity is giving way in a big sales drop to streaming. So your market share shrinks there as well.

Again, not trying to pee on your cloud, but these are things you will have to address if you decide to move forward, especially if you plan on getting an investment through people or banks.

    Good luck.

SIA makes some excellent points. Also, there is all ready on the market and in stores a liquid product that you can put on a CD or DVD that is supposed to fill the scratches. I understand that your goal is to prevent them in the first place. If you can figure out a way to do it, I would probably try it out.

dvd's are dying, netflix and itunes are dominating. Still, it sounds like a cheap product, and if you don't have much to lose, just go for it. You'll learn alot about business in the process anyway even if you fail.

keep thinking of new ideas and act on them!

Thanks for the help guys, SIA does make some good points I guess I need to talk to some sort of plastic manufacturer and use there experience to create something that works. I agree dvd's are dying but im in Australia and I cant see them being completley gone within the next 10 or so years. Speaking personally I dont download DVDs firstly because we dont have the internet plan to use those sort of downloads without it becomming very expensive and secondly because i prefere to watch it on the big TV rather than the laptop. Also I definatley dont want these to be expensive i see them being priced around $1 each at a guess maybe less if posible

No problem. It's good that you are open to the advice. I can't tell you how many people have come to me over the decades thinking they have a great business idea and by the time I'm done evaluating it, they ignore all the holes and push ahead anyway. It's never that an idea is a bad idea, it's always just having to look at it from an outsiders perspective.

I must say that your idea seemed new and innovative to me. Though I am not sure how successful it will turn out in today's market, but a new initiative is always welcome.

The idea is a nice one, being that there isn't really a preventative in scratching CD's. Some of the previous commentators made some good points regarding costs, and popularity. Being that you're in Australia I can't tell you how fast DVD's will be something of the past, but keep in mind that the advanced rate of which technology is booming most likely will result in DVD's becoming extinct quicker than you imagine.
If you do go ahead with this be sure to do serious research in terms of how technology is affecting your country.

Best of luck in the future.

A GYM Business Idea can be easy for every one,

Potential business owners who wish to venture in the health and fitness industry always grapple with the issue of how to start a gym. Starting a fitness center or a gym may be challenging especially if you wish to start from the ground up. This does not mean that it is not possible; all that is required is careful evaluation, a concise marketing plan and some capital, and that is all that is required as far as starting a gym is concerned.

First, you need a location; and it can be anywhere from your garage, basement or a large room which you have leased or bought. Remember that location is everything and this is attributed to the fact that many people are willing to do a 15 mile jog on the treadmill but a 15 minute walk to the gym may be gruesome. Choose a place that is convenient and fewer competitors. However, a lot have to do with the amount of capital you are willing to invest in the business. This is probably the reason why you may wish to apply for a loan to help you.

A good number of manufacturers are willing to offer discount on their equipment if you are willing to become a partner in their franchise. Although situations vary, you are required to use their equipment exclusively. Otherwise, you may be required to buy each equipment separately.

The final stage involves advertising and it should start during the set up period. It is wise to target people who are likely to come to your gym. Target a certain demographic such as the weight shedders, sportsmen and body builders, or people who want to develop good posture. You need to market and stock equipment according to the needs of your clients. There are many benefits that come with having a wider variety. Word of mouth is the easiest way to start your advertising campaign, especially if you can persuade colleagues and friends
