Hi there

As a start-up business I went scouting around Silicon Valley for some top branding companies to develop a logo, tag-line and business system (corporate identity) for my site. Prices of course range wildly, but some were pretty expensive. Any views on how much to spend on this aspect of the business... how important is this component in the mix of things? Would be interested to hear from anyone on this subject. I have also posted a survey on my blog kevinsgreatadventure.blogspot.com. I think the facts and figures will be very interesting.

The biggest problem with running a contest is that many designers (and developers too) operate under a No-Spec (no speculation) policy. You may get lucky and get some kid who is new to the game, but it will be very unlikely that you will get any real designers.

I am actually on a no-SPEC official protest list. I could not do something like that even if I wanted to.

I run a graphics business... I read the first line and thats all i needed to read. "Contest" is simply one small word for "I'm to cheap to hire a designer who actually has a degree in the visual arts and has studied one of the oldest trades in the world and knows more about representing your business and branding than you do"
