LLC start up help

Hello,

I am looking to start up a new business. I consult for medical companies that are in different states. None are located in the state that I live, it is all done virtually. In any event, can I set up an LLC in another state. I am from MD and it seems to be more expensive annually than other some other states. I have family in IN, and I was thinking about registering there and having a family member as the registered agent. Thank you for your help!
