Thumbs down Live Help on your website?

    Hey everyone,

I was thinking about incorporating a live chat help on one of my websites, and was wondering if any of you have done that. I did some research and found a couple companies that can offer it for a monthly charge, just was wondering if I can get some advice on anybody that has gone this route with one of their sites. How effective is it? Is it worth it? Will the visitors even use it? Let me know, thanks and take care.

I guess it really depends on the product or service you offer and the customers you target. First consider if the demographics you are targeting would even know how to use a live chat if it were offered. Do you think they would prefer getting support on a live chat as opposed to calling you? What specific purpose are you considering implementing a live chat for? Are you hoping to add additional avenues for your customers to seek support or is it for prospective leads who are considering buying your product?

Is use of live chat common in your industry? Do your competitors use it? Do these live chat companies require long term committments or can you just try it out for a month to see its effectivness?

Sorry for all the questions, these are just some of the things I would consider when making this decision.

    Good luck!

I use live chat on my site and it works great. I prefer using a widget based software over a windows based software as it does not affect the speed of the site as much. IMO

I would suggest it for sites that have products or services with a shorter buying cycle. It's great to relay a few great selling points to the visitor when they are already getting ready to buy. It also builds trust and can reduce shopping cart abandonment. The only thing I have not figured out is how to man the chats when I am sleeping to further increase conversions. I've searched out live chat outsourcing services but they either do not exist or look like they are based in India or Philippines and I am not ready to trust them with my clients (their sites do not convey trust and profesionalism)

This sounds like an interesting idea that will allow you to have immediate feedback from your customers. Not only that, you will be able to help them out with pressing issues that others might not be able to help with. Go for it! I am sure that will gain some valuable testimonials and feedback for your company as far as customer relations and public relations is concerned. Good luck!
