liscensing a product????

Does anyone know how to go about doing this?

My friend and I created a product in college that we have talked about trying to get patened and then sell the idea to a company that can produce it.

We have talked to an attorney a little about the patening process, but how would we go about selling the idea without it getting ripped off and us getting nothing out of it? We want to make sure that if it were to take off that we get our fair share.

Anyone have any idea on how this works??

I'm sure that this isn't what you want to hear, but if it were me I would talk to a good patent attorney who specializes in whatever field your invention is in and only does intellectual property.

A good patent attorney should be able to explain exactly what you need to do to protect your idea, and might even have some contacts or ideas for businesses that you could partner with or license your idea to.
