Hi ,

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in getting together to buy Shoutwire.com. It's a News social site like Digg.com and its selling for 1mil at ebizbrokers.com. I still believe that their really isn't a totally user driven news site out there, digg.com and netscape and other sites a heavily controlled by editors and top digg cronies. Mybe we could get 20 people together and pay 50000 each for a share in it. What do you think.

Paul, you wanna lead this deal, so why not post an explanation on why you think shoutwire is a good investment

it just looks like a basic pligg installation

instead of 20 people buying 1 site, you can structure a syndicate to launch 20 pligg sites across a range of topics, with all the individual sites cross promoting each other, and individual webmasters competing with and motivating each other

infact, you can go and put this syndicate together by rounding up http://dealigg.com/, http://www.gamelemons.com/squeeze/, http://www.nebulocity.net/, http://www.jossle.com/ and all the other digg clones

approach the webmasters and tell them a) your traffic is volatile and b) join this syndicate to lower your business risk and maximise return

I don't see how this alternative is not a better risk/return equation

Look at the traffic volatility for shoutwire. It's horrendous. The pattern shows that shoutwire is a one day wonder

A portfolio of sites would smooth out the volatility to achive a higher exit valuation

With its current volatility, the discount rate for shoutwire would have to be high tripple digits valuing the site at next to nothing - even if it's got evidence to rationalise awesome forecasts

finally: unless you can prove otherwise, I don't see how a wrap up play is not a better alternative to putting all your eggs into one very unstable basket

Shoutwire could be a good investment but we wont get any digg users on it if we bought it as they arent happy how the current owners have filtered the word digg out! Also even though it has good alexa stats you need to find out the exact revenue becuase you dont want to pay over the odds for it.

Also have you created a business and marketing plan? Because if you've not make one, becuase no-one iwll be interested if you have these as you want t make a business plan to show potential investors to help you buy shoutwire and a marketing plan to show how your gonig to beat digg.com

no i'm not associated with them i just thought that thoughs digg guys can't have it all for themselves and digg is not really a completey fair user driven news site it is control by top diggers and kevin rose is really getting a big head and thinks he is better than everyone else, also all though silicon valley guys that just get all the diggs. I thought hey how about we all get together and create a a real user driven news site , that is not controled by power hungry nuts a bit like reddit.com i think thats a very promising news site
