Yea, its mainly so you can play people in the same place and not have lag. You can also play online and use the internet. Usually there is a cafe that serves food and drinks.

Its pretty straight forward. Youll need tables, chairs, computers, a server, all the hottest online games, internet access and a space. I feel you should have a cafe as well because people dont like to leave the LAN to eat. You should probably do a survey first to see if people even want a LAN in your town.

Ps. If you arent into gaming and dont know what steam is then you probably shouldnt be starting a LAN.

It is a very good business if the majority of population don't have Internet access around. You will need huge space, about 50-70 computers and gamers as well. Good luck!

I have read on the net that such business are not successful in US..however in India its a different scenario..Most of the people dont have decent computers at home to play games..leave alone a high speed broadband connection.

As a nerd and former Lan party gamer, from what I've seen it can be very difficult, but fun.

I would suggest doing a few parties instead of opening up full time at first.

The issue you are going to run into is equipment (server, hubs, software) and also keeping it all running smoothly. All to often, people don't follow instructions and plug up where they are not suppose to and knock out the power (which makes people angry).

You will need to either know what you are doing with the networking or have someone around that does because things can get very confusing and you will have people whining about things not working and them not being able to get on the network and play.

It will test you organizational skills. Power grids, networking, troubleshooting, event planning, and tournament planning all go into this.

To keep your costs down, borrow as much as you can at first.. It will help, so If you have a friend with some extra equipment that you need, borrow it. Tables at church or somewhere, borrow them. Everyone in attendance needs to know to have their computers clean and bring all of their equipment with them.

It's more about the fun and the friendship than the money, but you can squeeze out some dollars especially if you are the only one.

I would suggest going toLANParty.com - Over 5 MILLION Served! - A Member of the GameSpy Network and reading up!

    Much Success to you!
