well ok i am 21 years old trying to start young majoring in business at LSU.i am working at a pool company and i want to start my own pool company because my boss is screwing me out of alot of money, i bring in about 100 grand a year cleaning pools and i only get about 20% of that.well all the names i come up with are already have been taken in other states. can you start the same company name in different states how does that work???

I think it is possible to to use the same name since while setting up an LLC is done through your states secretary of states office..When I set up my LLC there was a company that did have the same name as I did but they have been active for years so my PCA set it up for me...Maybe someone could be a little clearer than I was anyway I hope this helps a little..

First off, as long as the name is not copyrighted you can use the same name in a different state. Secondly to you Sunrise, when you file for your articles of incorporation it is done so through the states Dept. of Assessments and Taxation...not the States Secretary.

that is how it is done in louisiana also. h ow much does EVERYTHING cost to set up . i know that it is different in each state

Hello GettingBigger,
I'm also from Louisiana and did get my LLC name about 7 months ago. Secretary of State is the way to go, costs roughly 150 bucks if I remember correctly and you can get it expedited for an additional 40 bucks (you can get it in 3 days). Visit the Secretary of State's website: http://www.sos.louisiana.gov/.
-However, you need to get it notarized by a notary before faxing it back to them, I had this done through a personal attorney so I'm not sure the cost of this.
-The duplicate name issue: I think this only pertains to the State of Louisiana, and it would be an issue if someone had it copyrighted somewhere in the country. So, i think you should be ok.

I had a guy set up everything for me it cost me 400 bucks wich I am sure I could have done for much cheaper but he had it done fast. I can give you his number if you would like....
